If you are chasing a car, you probably don't feel a life-threatening urgency, and you get exhausted and stop. If you are being chased by a car, you do feel a life-threatening urgency, and you don't feel as though you get exhausted (even though you do feel tired to some extent). | ||

Being exhausted and being tired usually refer to similar states; exerting yourself until you feel physically drained. However, if you are behind a car, you get hit by the car's exhaust. Hence, you get exhausted from running, and exhausted by the car's exhaust. If you are in front of the car, you get tired from running, and get tired by the car's tires (hit by the tires).
