Because people are sheep and like to simplify starcraft to just numbers, it's the only way thier small minds can comprehend starcraft. Throw those builds out the window!

I do not TRY to lose. I try my best to win. Although if I lose I don't care. I should not have said just as fun, just not that much of a difference.

Because the majority of the population isn't very artistic

and besides if both players are using said 'best builds' aren't we back to square one? it then just becomes a battle of execution and we know how fun that is to watch or play

edit: just to clarify I'm not talking about 9 pools or 9/10 gates here, more those fully fleshed out builds over a longer timeframe

They're still more likely to win. Playing silly builds for fun is a good thing in my book, and I do it in fun games, but I don't do it when I'm trying to win, laddering (okay, I'm either D or D- so I really don't have anything to lose), or playing "seriously."

By the way, nortydog, you were the guy who "invented" ebay in natural followed by gas steal, right?

When you consider all the possible alternative choices before you, even in a short 10 minute game wouldn't you agree that if you didn't deviate from your pre-conceived plan then you would most likely be playing sub-optimally? therefore builds are at best a crutch we lean on because we don't know what we should be doing
