Here is some brief history. I used to have a Logitech MX500. It was some mouse my friend was using and he didn't need it anymore. I played SC with that for about 8-12 months at 800 dpi and fastest mouse setting. Then I was at Staples and they were selling Logitech G5 for $40.00 so I grabbed one of them. I play with that @ 800 dpi just like I did with the MX500 and just put weights in it for the sake of it.

Anyways, I've been playing alot in this last year or more and I had this G5 for about 18 months and the clicking on the left mouse button is sticking so I am going to get a new mouse.

I was thinking about getting a Razer Diamondback but since I've been using Mx500/G5 for about almost 2 years 1/2 combined and they both have the same shape/size and I am happy with that shape and used to it...so I thought just to get the same mouse. I have 3 choices

1. Logitech MX500 [800 dpi and thats it] about $20. I am not sure if I can get this but just keep it in mind that I might be able to get it

2. Logitech G5 about $80 - Weights and shit which doesn't matter to me

3. Logitech MX518 cause same shape/size as G5 and only $60 at stores and $50 online

One thing to note. I DO NOT PLAY ANY GAMES AT ALL EXCEPT SC. I don't play FPS. I don't play RPG's or anything. This mouse is only for SC and I use 800 dpi setting whether its G5 or M500 so knowing all this which mouse would you get?

You can def. get the G5 and the MX528 for cheaper than $60/$80. Try the Dell webpage...but maybe we're just having a "you're in Canada and you're in Canadian dollars problem."

I have an Mx518, I think it's pretty good. Never used any of those other ones. But I paid about 40 for it, so I'd look for it around that price. Lots of progamers use the Logitech Mini optical, I've never tried it but a lot of people think it's good.

You'll get used to it no matter what though, but I think the Mx518 is close to the 510 and you can still get it easily.

I personally have the Mx518, Its a pretty good mouse. But if your using the mouse only at an 800 dpi setting just find the one that suits your hand shape and size.

Depends on your taste...
Either you want to change and play a new bw game with a razer or,
Play with the old used but ugly mx500 or,
Play with at least a good looking mx500. Your choice. Hell there's not any question at all.

imo for SC a simple, light weight mouse is best. if you dont use the other mouse buttons then why pay for a complex mouse. Anyway i would just look for comfort and quality of the left mouse button. I use a razor krait now, i much prefer the ruberised button over those glossy logitecs.

MX518 I guess is winner.

I switched from razer copperhead to one that came with my computer though. Mouse doesn't really matter i guess.

Ah I see.

Well if you don't care about the G5 weights and stuff, I wouldn't buy it if I were you.

First of all dont put to much focus on dpi, its way overrated and doesnt matter that much. Much more important is the stability and speed of the optical sensor. Frames per second and maximum speed/acceleration.

If you want a big mouse I would recommend a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/gaming/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=087 , its better than any razer mouse.

Altough I think small and light mouses are better for RTS games. Such as Logitech Mini Optical etc.

And avoid laser mouses. Laser sounds more modern, flashier and high tech but they are not at all as good as traditional optical mice.

Of the 3 alternatives you mentioned I would avoid the G5 and go for a MX500 (or MX510) or MX518.

Its a matter of preference, some people just like to have their whole hand on their mouse while others prefer to only have half of it.

I've used the logitech mini before.. not a bad mouse but I would choose a razer over it anyday... just as savior did : )

Although the major drawback of razer products is just that they tend to die very quick... my krait is dying after 1 year of usage. If your a avid gamer and want your mouse to last you atleast 2-3 years then I would highly recommend a logitech.

if you're a low sensitivity user i see no need for you to get anything other than a mx500... maybe you could upgrade to a mx510 since it's a little better and cheaper than the mx518 or the g5, but it's entirely up to you. the g5 has a dpi switch which can change dpi on the button, but i dont really like that function because sometimes u can misclick it by accident, but i think the mx518 would be a good choice also... so in the end i would recommend either the mx510 or mx518, up to you on how much you want to spend
