So I got home from work, and since no one is around to play Dota, I decide to go for some solo queue action. To spice things up a bit I queue for US servers, since I somehow thought it might be cool to play with Americans for a change. Hah!
I play Enchantress in the forest, and Bloodseeker is solo on the lane next to my forest. I come help him gank a few times and everything is going splendidly.
Things take a turn for the worse when one of our players proclaims he will no longer participate, choosing to stand at the fountain and sulk instead. Why? Huskar stole his item, or so he says.
I'm not even that bothered by this because we seem to be stomping them anyway, and it doesn't take long for me to finish Aghanims. At that point I have all the individual parts, but the three staves are still in the base, so I enlist our loyal courier to transport them to me. However, at the same time I'm directing the courier towards me, Bloodseeker puts in a Talisman of Evasion and sends it towards him. I didn't notice this at first, so as I check the minimap and see the courier headed in the wrong direction I turn it toward me again, only to have it change course right after.
So I'm like, fine! Let him have his item first, and don't pay any more attention to it because we get into a fight. Not Bloodseeker though, no, he's in the bushes with the courier and our items doing sneaky stuff. Because the moment the fight is over and I try to send the courier towards me, it doesn't work. And it even takes me a second to realize that the courier....... is empty.
What. The. Fuck.
So I go, what did you do with my items? And at first Huskar chimes in and blames our guy sulking in the fountain, but the courier had been in the forest the whole time so I knew it wasn't him. I say as much. Bloodseeker then goes: "That'll teach you not to use the courier while someone else is using it". And I just can't fucking believe it! Turns out he HID. MY. ITEMS.
I was so mad! I don't think I've ever been this mad. I even flamed him, I normally never do that. I reported and ranted, and I still felt only rage. Meanwhile I was hopping through the forest looking for my items. I found an Ogre Club hidden by a bush near a creep camp, and a staff of wizardry near a cliff, but the Blade of Alacrity was nowhere to be found. And I asked. Repeatedly. And the only reply I got from dear Bloodseeker was "Have you learned your lesson yet?". And to think I supported that guy! Helped him get kills and everything! This is the motherfucking thanks I get?
It soothed me a bit that Huskar also got a little mad at him "You hid his items dude? wtf" but just a little though. He helped me look for the Blade of Alacrity and we finally found it, after which we proceeded to win the game, but the rage never really went away, I just can't believe the childishness. And I know this might not be an everyday occurrence but something like this had never ever happened to me before on a European server, even with plenty of vindictive Russians. To actually spent time and effort trying to make someone else miserable, completely out of sync with the game... it's just so unfathomably stupid to me.
So that'll be the extend of my exploration of US servers. Because fuck you.

This experience sounds almost hilariously surreal.

So let me get this straight. You play one game on the U.S. servers and you happen to play with 1 idiot and you judge the entire population that plays on those servers based on that one game?
And you don't think this could ever occur/has ever occurred in the European servers?
/Mind blown

Yeah I know that's unfair. I was just so mad I had to blame it on something.
I should probably play more US games just to see if this really was a one time occurrence
And yes I exaggerate, because I have a bunch of friends in the US and they're all fine but it just seemed like such a coincidence like the ONE time I queue US and then this.
I don't mean to offend all Americans. Just mainly this Bloodseeker, and perhaps a few others. Sorry.

Work and Play, what country do you live in? I want to go there and wait until something bad happens, then make an angry blog about it.
This one time when I was in Canada I got Subway with a dude, and then he asked me to pay for him. What the heck is wrong with Canadians?

That is what you took from that?
I already said I exaggerate! I'm just saying it was a bad coincidence that this happened the first time I queue US.

Most people (especially any American) is going to take something similar from this. What you intended and what you said aren't necessarily the same thing.

Good point, I might have thought that through better, but I was just venting when I wrote this.
So sorry US dudes and dudettes, except for you Bloodseeker you little shit.

That's actually kind of funny. He took the time to go around and hide your items. Made me giggle.
Yeah, I'm from the US.

LOL. In all my time playing dota 2, hon, wc3 dota I have never had anyone do that, that's hilarious lol. And yeah, I play on US

As a US dota solo que'er, I gotta say a few things.
First, I'd guess 30-40% of the players on the "US" servers are actually not americans. They are brazilian, mexican, russian, and god knows what else. Usually you can tell by the broken english (but sometimes their english is actually ok). The reality is that half your team probably wasn't actually "american."
Second, in almost 400 games, I've never had anything quite like that happen. I've seen some things so retarded that I've questioned humanity in general. I've had qqers. I've had "mid or feed" people. But I've never had someone actually go to the trouble of hiding items.

Hey, I got an idea! Why don't you generalize to all people who've ever played bloodseeker, instead of generalizing to an entire server! Like this: "Everyone who's ever played bloodseeker ever is an asshole, and deserves to get banned from every game in the world, even single player ones cause they're assholes and deserve it."

Let's be honest. The American DotA2 community is quite toxic in general. I can't speak for the other servers, and I wouldn't be surprised if they're bad, too, but the NA DotA community has always been quite foul.

To be honest, I feel that the dota style game tends to bring out the worst in people. Probably, most of these people are generally fairly personable. But if you put them in a team with 4 people they've never met, who they'll never see again, and who they've GOT to depend on to win, then bad things tend to happen. This is exacerbated by many other aspects of dota. One aspect is that dota tends to draw a more competitive crowd. Another is that simply by a single person making a couple split second mistakes, you can throw away your advantage, and aid your enemies. A third aspect is how useless and futile your actions become once your opponent has an decent advantage. And as people flame and grief, it slowly starts to seem acceptable behavior to the community in general.
Overall, I'd say the game has more to do with the observed behavior than the nation that it's in. It's almost surprising that there aren't more foul people than there already are.

From my experience playing dota on the US servers usually results in a shittier experience then on the SEA or AU servers (I played on US when AU didn't exist and the connect to SEA was unstable) I would find myself in games with people who complained a little too much and had slightly to big an ego. Compared to SEA where most people could not speak english, most people got over small mistakes and just kept on playing the game. AU also seems to contain players that do not lose their cool as easy.
But yeah, from what I've experienced, US people seem to just enjoy getting angry at shit. Also im going to guess that most of the reddit/4chan community that plays dota lives in the US and they are toxic as shit.

No, what you understood, and what he said weren't the same thing. I understood just fine that he didn't mean his promise of never playing on a US server because I also thought about the fact that he's just raging, and will understand how silly that idea is later.
The worst part about this is that you replied with a generalization right back. Really? MOST people? Do you have a link to back that up with? You went far beyond the OP's generalization, and included MOST of humanity! Holy shit man. that's quite the generalization.
Not trying to rag on you, but it's kind of silly to A: Assume that he was serious about his promise because it was obvious he was simply raging, and B: Continue to use generalizations that are far more exaggerated than the OP's claims, even if you simply meant teamliquid in terms of people.
Anyway, in reply to the OP - Yeah, I have a friend who has been playing DotA for years, and has told me countless stories of people similar to that. Or people who don't listen or say anything at all. Like you callmid, then they just go to mid, and never talk to you. They basically pretend like you're a computer player, and honestly - how can you blame them? If they're in that game alone, some people are just trying to get better and concentrate on that instead of communicating. It's their learning style.
Basically, it's unfortunate side effect of public games. You're lucky you won your game! Haha. Most people don't get so lucky when they have an asshole on their team.

If only.... This one time I went to Canada I ordered the 5$ cold cut combo only to find out that it was the 6$ cold cut combo in Canada. DAFUQ IS WRONG WITH CANADIANS!!!

In this blog, there isn't one instance of the OP blaming the US or americans or NA citizens for what happened to him in the game. NOT ONCE.
And yet, mentally challenged pricks come and mock him for something he didn't do. Playing the martyr while your country screw with the rest of the world might be fun but it'd be wise to understand the concept of boundaries. Even a mod ...

I understood just fine that he didn't mean his promise of never playing on a US server because I also thought about the fact that he's just raging, and will understand how silly that idea is later. This doesn't seem to make sense. I accuse him of meaning well, but saying something off, and then you tell me that I misunderstood what he meant, while you understood what he meant, even though what he said was off. The OP already gave thought to how he could discuss this type of stuff in the future a bit more diplomatically and I was fully satisfied with that... not sure why you feel the need to get involved.
The worst part about this is that you replied with a generalization right back. Really? MOST people? Do you have a link to back that up with? You went far beyond the OP's generalization, and included MOST of humanity! Holy shit man. that's quite the generalization. Generalizations can be bad when judging groups of people based on small amounts of information in a public forum (the unintentional side effect of the OP). To say that generalizations shouldn't ever be used without a 'link' is overkill. Do you go through every post of every thread you disagree with trying to find something that isn't backed up with some specific data source, and call them on it? Sometimes generalizations are necessary (although you can at least make the argument mine was not).
Not trying to rag on you, but it's kind of silly to A: Assume that he was serious about his promise because it was obvious he was simply raging It is silly to, by default, read the OP of a thread as the author's actual feelings instead of his drunk feelings, rage feelings, or other temporary feelings? Nothing wrong with proposing "this author probably doesn't actually mean what he says because X," but it's ridiculous to accuse someone of being silly for not using that as their default interpretation.
