Hi!

I liked the idea of the Album a Day thread that popped up here a couple weeks ago but was disappointed that it never really took off. So, I'm going to try and take up the mantle.

-----------------------------------{What I'd Like}-----------------------------------

-I'm open to anything, but I'd really like instrumental or electronic music. For the electronic music, think Final Fantasy XIII-2's soundtrack.

-If you have anything that doesn't really fall into either of these categories and it's not anything I'd hear on a pop radio station, feel free to post it with a short description of what it is and I'll probably give it a to a shot. I'm open to anything really, but I'd like to focus on the genres above. I don't mind being surprised with something different.

As far as instrumental, it could be anything from full orchestra to jazz, erhus or some pipe instrument I've never heard about. Surprise me. No need to post any Final Fantasy albums of the Lord of the Ring's soundtracks, as I already have those.

As for electronic, I'm one of the weird people that actually enjoyed Final Fantasy XIII-2's soundtrack, so I'd like to find more music similar to that.

----------------{Keep In Mind When Making Suggestions}----------------

It would be great if I could find whatever you post on Youtube or Spotify. Try to keep albums per post to 1 or 2, as I think the other guy got overwhelmed with suggestions. If you post more than 1, I'll probably briefly sample both albums and pick the one I like better. I might go back to the other one at a latter time.

Hopefully I can keep this up, and thanks ahead of time for the suggestions!

---------------------------------------{Thoughts}---------------------------------------

Day 1 (July 25, 2013): Bonobo - "Black Sands"
+ Show Spoiler +

I really like the first few tracks, and I could definitely see myself listening to just those individually. The rest of the album didn't stick out as much, but it was still enjoyable. As a whole though, this album is very nice to listen to straight through. I don't really pick out individual songs and make playlists, so this works out nicely. I'll have a look at Bonobo's other albums when I get a chance.

That violin track in the beginning... Is there anything else like that?

Day 2 (July 26, 2013): Boards of Canada - "Geogaddi"
+ Show Spoiler +

This is definitely a bit more atmospheric than almost anything else I've listened to, excluding video game soundtracks. It's good, but doesn't really draw me in too much like the beginning of the Bonobo album did. I can see myself listening to this album, but mostly just while I'm doing something else that's pretty involved or just relaxing, otherwise I'd probably get bored.

Day 3 (July 27, 2013): Tycho - "Dive"
+ Show Spoiler +

I found this album to be a bit in between the Bonobo and Boards of Canada albums. The tracks were fairly catchy, although not as catchy as the Bonobo tracks, but were also a bit more ambient, but not to the extent the Boards of Canada tracks were. There was enough going on that I could probably sit back and listen to this album all by itself, doing nothing but listening. Overall I liked this album quite a bit, and putting in on my list with Bonobo.

Day 4 (July 28, 2013): Ludovico Einaudi "Islands - Essential Einaudi" and Singularity - "Horizon"
+ Show Spoiler +

Ludovico Einaudi - "Islands - Essential Einaudi" thoughts:

An instrumental album! This has definitely been my favorite album so far. The music isn't too aggressive and just seems to flow. It's not too boring or too involved to listen to.

Singularity - "Horizon" thoughts:
This is better than other dubstep I've heard, but something still wasn't clicking. I'm not sure quite what it is, but I'm a bit more open to dubstep now. Is there possibly anything like this without vocals?

Day 5 (July 29, 2013) Carbon Based Lifeforms - "Hydroponic Garden"
+ Show Spoiler +

To me this album seems to be a bit like the Tycho album, but leans a bit more towards the atmospheric and ambient rather than melodic. I enjoyed it. Not sure what else I can add here.

Day 6 (July 30, 2013) Kollektiv Turmstrasse - "Rebellion der Träumer" <-- Next

You should be more specific in what you like and are looking for unless you just really want to go off the deep end. Did you like the Bonobo? Do you want chill or more aggressive stuff? What artists do you currently like?

Also dubstep can be a huge genre encompassing basically everything with a non steady beat at around 70bpm.

I'll just say if you want full albums, Dive by Tycho is just gold start to finish. If you are any more specific you might have much more luck.

In Hungry Hungry Hippos there are no such constraints—one can constantly attempt to collect marbles with one’s hippo, limited only by one’s hippo-levering capabilities.

Cool. I've come from the Final Fantasy soundtrack genre myself.

I recommend for Electronic

Above & Beyond - Trance Around The World #449
Zedd - Clarity
OVERWERK - After Hours
OceanLab - Sirens Of The Sea
DJ Okawari - Kaleidoscope
Tiesto - Just Be

You said no dubstep but here's a little more tasteful dubstep, at least in my eyes, especially Singularity.

Singularity - Horizon EP
Porter Robinson - Spitfire

For Instrumental-ish..

Philip Glass - Solo Piano
anything from Ludovico Einaudi
And also 12 Girls Band (idk if they have albums)
There is no one like you in the universe.

I support this suggestion - any artist and album from Ultimae Records would be a great choice

For my own recommendation, how about some oldschool (1995) ambient psytrance:

Couldn't find a video of the whole album but here's a playlist:

Comparable to Bonobo.

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92 and/or Richard D James album (one of the greatest and most influential IDM musicians ever)
Burial - Untrue (really unique and powerful chillstep)
Steve Reich - Music for 18 Musicians (brilliant instrumentals from one of the greatest contemporary composers)
Gold Panda - Lucky Shiner (another fantastic IDM musician)

I know you didn't want that many suggestions but hey, you can always come back to them. Four Tet and Boards of Canada were posted earlier so I didn't mention them... but Rounds and Music Has the Right to Children are always good too.

Most of the dubstep I've heard is basically just bass drops. If there is anything more "musical" I'd be willing to give it a shot.
I'm not being as specific as I could be since I really just want to find new stuff, rather than just more of what I already have. If this thread ever gets to the point where I need to be more specific then I'll update the OP.

Bvdub - All is Forgiven

Lush, long ambient tracks with subtle, ever shifting beats. The title track features a beat that wouldn't be out of place on an A$ap Rocky track and yet is still super relaxing. Spotify link:

Just started the Bonobo album. Just from that beginning song I can already say I want more of this. I'll listen to the full album and post my thoughts later on. I'll make a new post with the thoughts and also update the OP with them so they can be found in one spot. Hopefully I can get it done before I go to work but if not I'll post it after I get off at 11pm CST. I'll work on formatting the OP then too.

I'll do my best to do an album a day but with school starting soon and being a computer engineering major I'm not sure how much time I'll have. Then again, I'll be able to listen while I do homework and thoughts shouldn't take that long...

I liked the other thread as well and was disappointed just like you. Looking at you meow meow >:p.

Just a long shot, but if you lived behind the moon while metalling it up, listen to the 1996 album from X-Japan - Dahlia.

Next is Kollektiv Turmstrasse - Rebellion der Träumer but I can't find the full album on youtube so I might have to blind buy it on iTunes. From the brief preview I'm doing right now it sounds like it'll be worth it though.

Might not be what your looking for but this is a great group that I feel like is really under appreciated. This is from their first album which is a lot more subtle than the rest of their stuff. Their line-up usually goes singer/bass/keyboard/drums or singer/bass/bass/drums or singer/keyboard/keyboard/drums. I feel like they have a very distinct/good sound. Remember this is a lot more subtle than most of their stuff.
