Hey all, it's been a while.

So there's something I rarely talk about, even with my close real-life friends, that's been sort of an issue more and more for me recently. I've never really been able to draw girls. I know, it sounds silly, girls are really no different to guys, when you think about it, mostly the same lines and stuff, so it doesn't make sense. I've kicked myself a hundred times, but every time I try to draw a girl my hands get sweaty, I get nervous and it just all goes wrong. Here's a comparison:

HP Lovecraft, a gentleman

A girl. I forget who this was supposed to be. Answers on a postcard.

I had sort of a breakthrough moment one night, when I just thought to myself "No, I need to do this, this is important". A friend of mine, who was pushing me to draw a girl, started suggesting I have a few beers, 'no,no, it's easier, your lines are looser and you get results' he insisted, but I was having none of it, I need a clear head to draw girls.Turns out that was a great move, and I bit the bullet and got practicing. At first I was a wreck, leaving a string of crumpled paper in my wake, then it started to click.

My first girl <3

And with more practice, I've been able to try different things:

(Fe) male

I'm sort of out of control now, finding women on Tumblr

Now I'm getting into things like dress-up!

And now I'm adding women to my usual work, like a gentleman

I'm so glad I just practiced to get over my nerves, I think PUAs (Pretty Underrated Artists) call it "negging the peacock" or something.

On a side note I'm trying to be more frequent with my Facebook page updates; works in progress, sketches and the like are available: http://facebook.com/UltimateHurl

5/5 Great blog. Funny as hell.

Edit: The women you draw all have very manly features like a prominent jar line and generally roughly chiseled facial features.

I've never done it, but It's been scientifically proven drawing men dressed as women boosts confidence for drawing women at least 34%.

Thanks :D

Yeah, you're men are really good But, at the risk of sounding really harsh, even the body of the woman in your last picture looks... a little weird. It's easy to see you're a good artist and the potential you have from your drawings of men.

Noted, I haven't spent much time drawing the female figure, more practice! :D

You gotta explore it, play with it, move it around, approach it from different angles. The double meaning is fully intentional.

You're lines in general are very straight, edgy and full of geometric tension. Try to go for a more dynamic and dancing line when you draw a woman. A great way to approach it, for example, is to draw a shadow-like silhouette of a female nude in one line. Make sure to do it fast to get a really dynamic hour-glass kind of figurine. You'll just have to develop a feel for it. Don't try to draw a man first and then transform it into a woman's body. Doesn't look good.

Man, until I got to the 'crumpled paper' bit in your second paragraph, all of that could be read as trying to ask out/attract girls and be unrelated to sketching girls.

I'm no visual artist, but I will suggest just focusing on sketching the figure as much as you can. It might help you improve more quickly than the method you might currently be undertaking. To put it in starcraft terms, let's work on the mechanics instead of worrying about the mid game. Ok?

I like the "first girl" and the "tumblr girl" quite a lot.

Hmm... this I can use on some friends of mine . Very funny to note though
