Hello TL!

I made jalapeño burgers this week! My intention was that they are suppose to look like the Horadric Hamburger from Diablo 3.

D: They sorta maybe do?

INGREDIENTS

  • salt
  • pepper
  • 4 teaspoons of olive oil (one per batch of burgers)
  • 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper (add more if you want more heat)
  • 1 tablespoon of worcestershire sauce
  • 2 jalapeño peppers, diced (reserve some slices to place on top of the burger patties)
  • 2 lb of ground beef (I'm using 90/10 beef; if you use 85/15 beef, use less oil when you begin to grill
  • the patties)
  • 1/4 of a red onion, cut into slices
  • 1 steak tomato, cut into slices
  • 8 lettuce leaves
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • OPTIONAL: ketchup

PROCEDURE
Prep work will take about 20 minutes. Total cook time will be about 10 minutes per burger (~40 minutes total assuming you're cooking 2 patties at a time). This recipe will make 4 servings.

Calories per serving: ~540 calories (without ketchup, and using 90/10 beef)

  1. Place ground beef in a bowl. Season with salt, pepper, and cayenne.
  2. Add in your worcestershire sauce.
  3. Add in your diced jalapeño peppers and combine with the meat.
  4. Take palm sized balls of meat from your bowl. Shape them into burgers. Try to get a consistent size for all of the patties.

  5. Heat a large skillet on high heat and add olive oil.
  6. Cook your burgers (try not to over crowd your skillet) for about 4-5 minutes* on each side, or until the burger begins to bleed a little bit. Do not flip your burgers more than twice.
  7. Remove your burgers and set aside to rest for about 2-3 minutes.
*4 minutes per side should yield medium-rare burgers.

  8. Build your burger: place 1 hamburger patty on a bun.
  9. OPTIONAL: Add ketchup.
  10. Then, place your lettuce, tomato and onion on top of the first patty.
  11. Follow with another patty and lettuce, tomato, and onion on top of the second.
  12. Finish by placing the other half of the bun on top.
  13. Eat!

What I don't get is how people eat burgers that are double stacked like that.

Looks good though. Jalapeños are fucking delicious.

Yeah as delicious as it might look I'm always reluctant to eat anything that could get very messy, very quick.

You need to train your jaw muscles: flex, stretch and strengthening. You never know when a 2/3 story burger is headed to your mouth, so you must prepare for the day...

Anyhow, manliest burger I've seen in 2013

You should probably make a note about resting the meat, one of the biggest mistakes by beginner cooks imo

Hahaha it does!
I actually took out the onion after I finished taking the photos.

The reason I cut them so thick was to match what the actual horadric hamburger looks like in-game. Cartoony and super chunky slices of veggie. WOULD NOT SUGGEST GIGANTIC SLICES!

Optional Ketchup should be mandatory imo :3

These look wonderful though, can i ask how hot they are? I know Jalapeno's can be quite fierce? How hot do they come across in the burger?

Jalapeños aren't bad at all unless you belong to the grouping of people who get burnt by curry and regular old black pepper.
As for ketchup, it's really overdone in most cases. It can taste good, but also massively hide the smaller nuances that spices and other good things bring to the dish.

That is just way too big, jesus christ. It looks kinda cool I guess, but it's so ineffective to eat like that.

Trust me dude, the hottest curries are hot as hell, try the highest level of spice in the japanese chain CoCo Curry for example. It's not "holy shit I'm going to die" strong, but it's far spicier than your run-in-the-mill jalapeño.

:D I like ketchup, but I try to eat it in moderation. Don't want to drown the burger with ketchup~

Jalapenos aren't extremely hot, but if you're sensitive to heat, I would just wash the insides thoroughly and try to remove the white membrane inside. You'll still have some of the jalapeno taste but without the heat.

Personally, I didn't think the jalapenos were that spicy, but I have a pretty decent heat tolerance. My boyfriend thought they were pretty noticeable (he's very sensitive to spicy food).
Jalapenos in my opinion just add a very pleasant and mild heat.

If you want to make it very spicy, I suggest adding some habanero chilis.
The smaller the pepper, the spicier it is!

Thanks Panda <3

Will give them a try, i have a good heat tollerance but i always thought Jalapeno's were like the ultimate hotness xD
Would love to try this, will print it off :D

...MORE KETCHUP XD i am the kind of person who drowns things in ketchup ;_;

If you soak your red onions in cold water for like 10 min, you'll get rid of the burning acid sensation but keep the flavor!
