There are probably thousands of international students who bring little more than a laptop and two suitcases of clothes.

And yes, it is. in terms of getting rid of random stuff, yeah, I plan on it. I just want ot bring clothes, wallet, watch, computer, pocket knife, water bottle, some first aid stuff, some drugs, that's it.

I think most parents will go into overdrive and overpack because they worry that you won't be able to take care of yourself. It's understandable. I would just try to talk to her about it and even if she still disagrees, allow her to help you out and if you don't agree, then just remove or sell the stuff, etc... She is only trying to do what is in your best interest. yeah. there is some truth to that. mostly I'm just frustrated by the hugely negative reaction I get when I try to bring it up in conversation.

Even though you are only trying to lessen her work by telling her that you can take care of yourself and such, she still won't see that until you finish your first year and are still alive lol. At that point, she might start to slowly recognize that you are indeed able to take care of yourself and there is a greater chance that she will listen to you next time so ya, you're going to have to just put up with the hugely negative reaction for now
