I have reached a very strange point where I have found myself pretty much burnt out on video games. I never thought I could reach this point, actually, as I tend to ingest a good 4-8 hours of games a day almost no matter the circumstances. However, due to recently lack of money and tasks, I have been playing way too many games recently and I believe that I actually burnt out. I now meander around the interwebs, looking for entertainment in other forms. I started doing craft projects, making a clay Pinkie Pie (unfortunately, I forgot to set her up with a wire and foil armature because I didn't think I'd bake her, so she is a little corgi-like), and I have been spinning poi more.

Truthfully, the one thing I really should start doing is working out. While I had a doctor's appointment on Monday and was told I have "the heart of a great athlete," I can tell I am getting badly out of shape. Though it is normally my lack of abdominal definition that gets me back on track, I find it's my legs that are really bothering me. I used to have big, muscly thighs as my main event in track and field back in high school was the triple jump. Those thighs shattered the school records and took me to state, but they are clearly lacking a few pounds now. I find something strangely disturbing about skinny legs, so looking down at mine has been making me go into random bouts of squats and stair-drills, much to the confusion of my housemates.

Finally, in my boredom at 2 a.m. I searched for more photos of my Blizzcon baneling costume and found new ones! I'm really happy about that, because it was really hard to find photos of it for some reason. So here's the updated collection: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.293421230676328.78252.170236112994841

Definitely a case of "too much of a good thing."

I've been the same way lately and it sucks I'm actually looking forward to things that I usually dislike because they cut into gaming time.

It gives me an excuse to read though which is nice, I need to finish ASOIAF.

Ah, me, too. I still need to buy and read the fifth book! Admittedly, there is something extremely satisfying about having a paperback book in my hands, even the smell of books is relaxing for me! I just don't think I could ever be a Kindle person, as convenient as they are.

I feel like video games currently lack the depth they used to have.

I feel like I am in the exact opposite situation. There has been so much stuff going on that I haven't been able to play in a couple of months

Do you mostly play multi- or single-player games?

When I get really bored, I play Desert Strike or Nexus Wars with friends and tease the people on the other team. You do have friends, right? lol jk but it is sort of mindless fun and you don't really need to pay attention or even use both hands.

Why is this sentiment so popular? It is not true at all. Every year there are at least a couple of games that are pretty good, it's just that crap flashy games are advertised and promoted so much more aggressively.

When I feel that way, I go play old games and I feel better. The gym is good too. Going outside is good to do in general, even if you love gaming. Take up laying out in the sun; it's nice to do this time of year.

I think video games have gotten kinda boring lately to me. The market is full of FPS trying to get a piece of the halo/cod market. I personally enjoy RPG games the most, not to take anything away from shooters. But lately I am going back and playing mass effect 2 and 3 eventually, while trying to get my nova icon because I am sooo close. Also you are the cutest baneling ever, and because of that if I was a Marine, I would likely not split with my marine comrades, and just die....

I was the same way for awhile, but then I got back into skyrim and played it just to look at all the cool environments. It made me take a step back from gaming and instead of taking it seriously all the time, just have fun with it.

I've reached this point with most games. The summer time and golf season draw me away from the comp most of the time.

I have started and have yet to finish:
-Mass Effect 2
-Skyrim
-Fallout NV
-Amnesia: the Dark Descent (nope nope nope...)

I've stopped playing the following games very often
-Diablo 3
-SC2
-LoL
-Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup
-Nethack

I have been playing tons and tons and tons of DayZ though. This game totally has captured my imagination!

You should take photos of the clay Pinkie Pie and post 'em in the pony thread in the general forum we love that kind of stuff.

About games though, I know the feeling you're talking about and the burnout feeling can happen with pretty much any hobby gaming included. I think what you're doing is the right thing and just focusing on other forms of entertainment for now and it's a good chance that you will feel a craving to play again at some point.

There is some really good games still being made, but as mentioned before it's not those ones that get all the marketing hype for the most part.

Just thought of a great series of indie adventure games with a great story.

Made by Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw (of Zero Punctuation game reviews/PCgamer mag fame).

Collectively called the Chzo mythos, each can be downloaded for free here.

Feels so good to blame the other...

I personally found that this article hit home for me: http://www.cracked.com/blog/5-ways-to-tell-youre-getting-too-old-video-games/

#5 is debatable but the others ones left me laughing and quickly realizing he was right. Sometimes you just have to admit your tastes are changing,

I dont think we should blame the corporations. I think developers need to make money, and Coroporations are going to find a way to make money. Take a look at what happened to big huge games (guys who made kingdoms and amular) Game was pretty much the RPG game you wanted. But it sold horribly, and the company died. Corporations keep a lot of developers from dying. I think everyone lately is trying to get on the CoD success train and therefore we get a lot of the same. The best thing to do when you are burnt out on games is take a break, or get a game that has kick ass MP like SC 2 or Cod(yes i know but killing people online is fun!!!)

Good article, though I don't know if I'm quite at that point yet, though it's definitely creeping closer. However, it did spawn a conversation that I'd die happy if they created a Legend of Dragoon 2 (Legend of Dragoon was my favorite RPG because it combined turned based role playing with skill, so you have more fun than a simple move-selecting program while playing).

As for lack of depth, I just feel that there are a bunch of people who like less story oriented video games. Personally, whenever someone mentions CoD, I think about how absolutely amazing and compelling the plot and gameplay of my favorite FPS series, Half-Life, is in comparison! To each their own, I guess!

Yeah skinny legs are so depressing. It's so sad when otherwise beautiful girls look all sick and emaciated (by choice, wtf), and it shows especially in the legs. Good on you for having pride in dem thighs.

Already there darling?
Maybe you need to do something mundane, how about washing dishes or cleaning your room(I bet it's really dirty).

Aye, washing dishes, cleaning my room and even cleaning my turtle's tank. All done in boredom.
