Semi-realistic Stitch?

Finished this a week or two ago for my girlfriend, thought I'd share it with TL. I'm sure many of you love cute and fluffy things. Backstory for why I drew Stitch in the first place is simply because she likes to call me that as a nickname. We was showing me her silly voice, so I retaliated with my Stitch impersonation and it stuck.

I was really trying to push myself with this piece in terms of texturing, and lighting. Looking around on CA.org, I began contemplating how I can push myself further and further and try to simulate the realism in their texturing. So I gave a shot with fur, I'm particularly happy with how the ears came out and feel quite proud of them. I feel I captured the dog ear relatively well, with a thickness, but where the fur is more directional and droopy giving it a smoother look rather than obtrusively fluffy. Tried to give a waxy look inside the ear along with veins, and I think I succeeded in the wet nose look. All in all, I learned a lot from this piece and I hope to continue improving in the future.

Wow, this is really great! The texturing is excellent. The only thing I would point out is that there are a few places where the quality of the edge flattens it out. For example the lighter edge of the (viewer's right) right ear and a few of the rose petals.

The way the rose he is holding transitions forward in space is also slightly confusing to the eye. It is clearly further away when you look at the stem near his paws, and the rose itself is clearly closer, but the stem appears to simply move to the left in space rather than to the left and forward. The foreshortening is just a bit off. Not quite sure how I would fix it tbh. Maybe a change in shading and edge would help as the stem is very uniform along it's length.

Really impressed. Great work. SO CUTE!

Stitch is my girlfriend's favorite Disney character.

You have just made her a very happy person.

Thanks for the input. I think, the confusing aspect about the stem after reading your analysis of it, is i would've needed to make the shadows curve a little more to give the illusion that it's coming outward more. I'll keep this in mind when working with foreshortening in the future.
