On ladder I’ve been hitting a pretty big slump. Two or three months ago I was playing against masters league players on ladder pretty consistently and now I’ve been playing platinum level players after a pretty huge streak of losses. This took a pretty big hit onto my mentality and I keep thinking that I’m awful at the game and I just keep getting worse and worse.

The thing that really screws with my head is that at a tournament at my school’s lan yesterday i was able to take any match that I played against a diamond league player and I was actually able to take a series 2-1 over a Masters league player.

These two things kind of contradict each other in my head. It shows me that I have the ability to beat Masters league players but also my failure to ladder myself up there shows me that I’m not to that point just yet.

There was an article on TL earlier on that pretty much said there are moments when platinum level players macro'd like grandmaster level players. (Edit: article here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=266019 ) What makes the grandmaster players who they are is their ability to play at that level consistently.

The more games you play, the more consistently you'll be able to play at certain levels. You may be able to play at a master league level 3 games out of 10, but 7 out of 10 times are still diamond level games.

I know that leagues don't directly correspond to skill, but you know what I'm getting at.

I think you should think the opposite. You're obviously better than your ladder rank. Many many people have stated (See Day9 episodes or SOTG) where they said the ladder ranking isn't the be all-end all-determinant of your skill. If you can beat Master's level players, then you're pretty good ^^. Hope you can turn around your ladder runs

I've been part of eP for over a year now but unfortunately I'm familiar with the name but I don't really know DaFoo

I'm in an exactly identical situation to you. I got demoted from master league and am now losing to platinums on ladder, even though I regularly trounce diamond and master players when I play in tournaments and customs. I can't offer any advice, only condolences.
