Hello all Tler's and in this Blog post I'm going to discussing my mind on how exactly you create a successful youtube video and or series. Now before we start I'm going to link my most recent video that I made with a friend, The basics of what we have tried to do is to make a video about something we like.

Now in my mind I know that if I work on something I'm interested it generally feels like less of a hassle and overall gives you pleasure with the outcome with the added bonus of sharing with others. I also believe that there are certain things you can do in a video to possibly nudge it towards being a successful project and outcome.

My list of things that i think are essential:

Commentary
Topics of interest
Real life application
Unusal Footage
Slow motion footage
Gameplays
walkthrough
guides
video quality
sounds
colors
angles
correct pausing

and others of less interest.

My question to you though is what do you think makes something successful?

What makes something successful is it being noticed by somebody who already is successful. Quality and the things you mentioned are good for keeping a community around you, but in the end someone with a lot of attention will most likely have to endorse what you do.

Could you elaborate on this?

I'd say youtube is somewhere where you DON'T have to have anything but good content (depending on your definition of good) to get noticed and get the viewers in. I watch things on youtube that I want to watch through searching or stumbling across them because they are already popular, and if they are already popular it always seems as if they got there on their own steam rather than through endorsements.

I don't think that's always the case, just wondering if anyone from TL has done it without endorses now.

I've always wanted to try out my own youtube video, what program would I need to record my sc2 games with possible commentary?

What is successful? High viewership or good quality? Both perhaps? Or even the level of your own personal enjoyment and utility from the video?

To get high viewership, you do not necessarily need to be "endorsed", but you do need to know how to direct viewers to your video, whether it be high-impact keywords or tags, strategic linking, or targeting certain internet demographics.

I used to make youtube videos, they were crappy pieces of shit but people watched them because my username was such that if they made a generic search my stuff would pop up. I was only like 10 when I started and I stopped long ago, but I've still gotten over 6,000,000 video views and several hundred dollars of ads. Basic point is I didn' follow any of your guidelines and still got popular, thus is the way of youtube, the shit rises to the top.

I think if you have an interesting opinion , one unheard , or not so often phrased,
then you can be successful.

that and luck

To elaborate for you... I would gaurantee that a large percentage of
Popular YouTube channels have been endorsed (talking about, linked by, directed other people) by people who have a following in some way or another. For example my average video received about 1000 plays. If I posted my song on here it receives roughly 30k. Day9 said something about my song on his daily and it has 200k~....

I have watched many people I know go through the same thing and everyone's success has been a result of being noticed by someone that can drive traffic to them. Maybe someone can come here and say that they made it big a different way but I promise they would be an exception. I subscribe to many people with amazing content who don't get more than 4-5k views a video and have been doing it a long time. Quality is sometimes important but being noticed and talked about will always yield better results regardless of whether or not you are doing a good job.

Most of the biggest YouTube videos are known for being bad nowadays.

I think the reason is there known for bad is because youtube is always evolving, also i don't think you need to be endorsed to get more views, if your stuffs good then there's always chance.
