Lori ' Tesla' Slaughter first got started in Esports while being an online radio host inside of Guild Wars where she became smitten with a friend, StarCraft: Broodwar player that sparked her curiosity. Tesla states “as we hung out more, he kept talking about Broodwar” she attempted to ask him several times about it only to get the response “Its spaceman talk”. After he finally told her a little about the game she began watching Korean Casts which she admits “falling asleep to”.
Later, Tesla discovered that her very own parents had once played SC:Broodwar and took their game to install onto her own PC. Within two months she then became an admin for ICCup and fell in love with the job which she carried the Admin title for two years.
In ICCup she also preformed many different jobs which included making guest appearances on a talk show “Brent andKenny Show.” “I was told I had a good voice for commentary and decided to give commentary a shot, when SC2 beta went live” Tesla stated. Since then, Tesla has also become and editor for our very own Team Dignitas. Tesla has continued to be involved in the community.
Tesla decided to create GoSc as a group that would support all females from the StarCraft community, regardless if that was Broodwar or Wings of Liberty. She describes GoSc as “small, closed community for the females in the community. I guess you could call it a support group.” She reminds us that the group is open to all females in the CV community as long as they remember their manners.
Tesla founded the group to help encourage and support the constant growth of females in the SC community. One of her primary goals of GoSc is to “help encourage a friendly and competitive environment for the females coming into the SC competitive scene.”She refers GoSc as being a new players “first step into the competitive scene, if they so wish” a “starting point that will hopefully open many doors.”
Although GoSc is currently only for females they are working on expanding into events hosted by a group that anyone in the community can enter, male or female. In the meantime “whether you were born a female or you identify yourself as a female, you are welcome into the group as long as you remember your manners” It is important to remember to respect the community and your fellow members.
Tesla has created an amazing community that has assisted females in coming out and feeling comfortable being a female gamer. Inspiring each other every day GoSc seems to be a tight knit family like community that gave me the warmest of welcomes and is full of kind fun and great gamers.
