My earliest memory of Starcraft was Broodwar. I remember being fairly young and watching my uncle play all night long. Soon enough my siblings both played it on a regular basis. What was my first thought? “What a horrible looking game, BORING” The colors were dark, the graphics didn’t look appealing and overall the game just did not interest me..at all. They kept telling me to try it but I refused, walking away thinking to myself “Psh, sorry guys unlike you I have a life!”
By the time Wings of Liberty came out my siblings had a lot of Starcraft under their belt. When it first came out I was dating a Korean guy who also played a lot of Broodwar as well as other games of that sort. Once he got a hold of Wings of Liberty he stopped paying attention to me, always focused on the screen *Ahh I lost my Boyfriend to Jim Raynor.. OR Kerrigan >.> whichever you please. What am I to do?!* After watching him be so focused and so absorbed in the game I finally broke and fell curious to what is so great about Starcraft.
I sat myself down on the computer so confused staring at the screen wondering what I should do next. I clicked on campaign mode.. and that was the end for me. I was immediately drawn to the game, It looked nothing like Broodwar. The story line was intriguing and I found it very difficult to tear myself away from the game. After finishing the campaign I began playing on the ladder as a Terran.
(My set up complete with Ramen and.. Anatomy Text book?!)
Up until MLG Providence I only played casually not really concerned about where I was placed I ranked Silver 1v1 and Platinum in 2v2 at one point but who really cared O_O. So what changed you ask? Watching Slayers Boxer, Diginitas Select, and Liquid Jinro all play Terran in the battle for the champion was more than inspiring. All the fans cheering them on and their amazing strategies was intoxicating and I wish MLG was every day. On the trip back to NY All I could think about was how I could play like them, How I could move up in the ladder, what strategies I needed to learn.
Then to egg me on even more my friend told me if I get to gold He will get me the death adder mouse from Razer and if I get to Platinum he would get me the Blackwidow Ultimate Keyboard from Razer!!! And trust me I love shiny new things, especially if they will assist in my gaming. *drool*. I decided that In order to succeed I would need the advice of better players to support me and in order to really get helpful tips they would have to be able to view my games. So I decided to broadcast and blog about my epic adventure to climb the ladder of SC2.
After only a week of broadcasting I already have 5 dedicated viewers to my streams and a growing number of followers to my Twitter. The support has definitely motivated me more and even makes me feel as if they look forward to my streams and me getting better. To make it even better, a lot of my viewers are ranked bronze or silver just like me so I feel as if I could be an inspiration to them as well. I look forward to moving up in the ladder.
It would definitely be a huge personal achievement for me and I aim to play in competitions once I get a bit better. I do wish to one day be qualified to play in MLG alongside my role models Boxer, Select, and Jinro. I do understand the amount of time and effort it will take and I also know it wont happen overnight. I am prepared for many failures as well as many successes"
(Yay I met Select at MLG! P.S I'm not Platnium yet.. >.>)
“Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in getting up every time we do."
Please follow me on this journey to climb the ladder and I will be forever grateful for your support!
