First, I'd like to say that I'm your typical silver/bronze baddie. I'm that guy that plays with a group of people you could call a guild/squad/clan. We play a lot of games together and are planning on playing Star Wars: The Old Republic upon launch.

At some point in our journeys we all played Starcraft 2. I was an old BW player and I have a somewhat competitive nature so out of all of us I was the only one who ventured out on the ladders. Obviously, within a week I was light years ahead of them. Take someone who has hardly played against people, but thinks they are a master of the campaign and comp stomping and will put my money on the scrubby bronze guy any day. So after another week of playing with them they all kind of disappeared and moved on to other games... Fast forward 4 months I'm still laddering, learning and working to be a better player. I still play with these friends, most of them are just online people that I've played with for years, but I'm at a point where playing with no one is frustrating. I've tried taking to time to teach them and encourage them to go on and play the ladders some and learn, but they seem to have no lasting interest.

My frustration is quickly becoming the realization that I am to some degree being held back by the fact that I have no one to play with, no one to keep stride with and no one really to push me. I got one buddy that's some random guy in masters and plays with GM people all the time. He's been helpful, but I know I can't be bothering that dude all the time. TL practice partner thread has been about as successful as eHarmony, 'nuff said.

Anyone else have this phenomenon happen to you? All your buddies just disappear one day? The worst part about it is the fact that not only have I been abandoned here, but Starcraft is now the new standard of "elitism" and a subject of a lot of hate(and stupidity). Statements like "Why do I need to learn hotkeys in order to be good? I shouldn't have to learn hotkeys in order to be good." and "Starcraft is the most ruthless and unmannerly game on the internet." all this coming from people who played WoW at some point or another...

Maybe today was just a bad day with a 6 loss streak in my crappy silver league. Maybe I'm just at work with nothing better to do than write down my personal aggravations of the day concerning Starcraft. Who know?... What would you do? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is an epic case of irony. You've been searching this entire time for answers, yet the answer is in your very signature. You must 5 pool. But this can't be done you say? No, do not kill one of drones each time you spawn and then throw down a spawning pool. You must return to brood war, because that is where your heart is. The first time you opened up starcraft 2, your mind raced with possibilities. "Now that the engine and UI don't tie me down, I can play as well as anyone!" you thought. No, these elements are part of brood war's heart and soul and subconsciously you recognize this, which is why you can't seem to dedicate yourself to climb the ladder and instead screw around with your friends. You know that star2 is prosaic and pedestrian, lacking passion, neutered and spayed like a lion sans testicles or a literary masterpiece abridged and revised for the everyman. The strokes of genius, the complexly described phrases and authorly quirks are edited out and gone for simplicity, but these are what made the game special, and you know it. Rekindle that old flame; she's been waiting dutifully for you the past 12 years and you know you still love her.

Ya that happened to me too, thats why i quit sc2, also because it demands too much time. I've tried a lot of games with a lot of different ppl, currently i have a group of friends to play casually any title and when im serious about some game i just find new group of guys to play with, that are better than me, I play a shit ton with them until im at their level, then move on to the next tier.
My advice, if you want to get better you should play with ppl that destroy you, doesnt matter how frustrating it might be its the fastest way to improve.

casualman I don't know what bright part of the world you have come from but that was the most beautiful 211 words I've read today.

Thank you and you deserve a slow clap to start every time you get out of bed for the next week.

@casualman - I love you... I may try that, but I think I've grown too fond of the worker rally ability to ever go back to BW. Do you still play BW? If so, then we should play some time

@empty.bottle - My goal isn't to quit SC2 and I am quite content with the amount of time I put into it. I don't mind playing people much better than me and I do that quite often. I'm just a little displeased with all the people I play/played games with online seem to be alienating SC2 because it's "too hardcore". Stupid, just want to play with a few cool cats. You know, just have something to look forward to when I get on other than just laddering.

@FinestHour - I'm glad you found that special someone in the TL Practice Partner thread.

You ever have a woman that just seemed to have 'sucked' the life out of you? Breath-taking moments, coincidences proving the conspiracy, that's Brood War. She's the girl you _use_ to love, but she's gotten too complicated.

Here comes the new, younger, Starcraft 2, bouncing around with its "anyone can play me" mentality, and all the guys who use to own the block are now sucked into this new blood. Are you playing Starcraft2 because of Broodwar, or are you playing Starcraft2 because you actually like the game?
Fuck off ;D

I have 50+ keybinds on WoW. SC2 hotkeys are the least of my worries :p

Your story sounds about exactly the same as mine, started playing with buddies, they all left and now I have one friend in low masters left :p

Your friends will never like SC2 like you do and you can't change that. Find new friends to play SC2 with. This lesson would have been even harder for you if these were RL friends so it's good you learned it this way.
