Hello!
I have been googling for ages now, and the only thing I can conclude, is that the problem is caused by either Windows 7 or my a defect LAN cable.
The problem is that I get gigantic spikes every 50 secs or so. These spikes last for 5-8 sec where both sound and video cut.Right now I am trying to run the program as admin, so I will tell after how it went, I tried it in single player where it didnt spike, so it can still be the inter net, but I did that test after I ran the game as admin, sso we'll see.......Okay that didn't work.
Anybody out there that have any advice? I am f'cking pissed off.
Thanks on advance

Also, this was done on my brand new laptop : Toshiba Satellite Pro with windows 7 professional on it. I have done all windows updates and shit, so that aint a prob.

dota 1 or dota 2? If it is dota 2 post it on the official beta forums so you can relay this problem to them so they can check it out (it is a beta after all).

Ever since 30 Rock I can't hear someone talk about how much they google without giggling.

Eh, it use to be like this for me on Dota 1, but that was when I was on wireless. Try changing the ethernet cords out.

Just spitballing here, but are the chipset drivers/other laptop drivers all up to date?

speedtest.net > check ping and down, up. If down, up seems normal and ping < 100ms then your connection is ok. check display's driver (well the software version) check other programs that you might think it can influence gameplay (in general). You didn't provide any details information than just describes so I can't really tell ...

This is kind of a strange question, but does it seem like its a lag spike or an issue with your video card? I know you kind of said you don't know, but I kind of find that I can tell the difference. Usually early in games my game is choppy for like 3 seconds while my card warms up I suppose, since its always just the first game. But it looks similar to a lag spike except I don't think anyone else feels it. Other players should feel a lag spike.
That being said, a periodic lag issue seems like it would most likely be an issue with the internet, or how the game is relaying information or something. The best thing I could imagine is that maybe you have some of the game ports closed? I feel like a consistent lag spike like you described in such a timely fashion has to coincide with some internal game function.
If nothing else lags when you do it, then its probably not just the internet or router. If its the beta like someone mentioned its probably just a bug that will be patched eventually, but until then you can make a report on it.

I am definate it is not my internet connection, I did tests and it is fine. I am thinking it is the video card or something. I also noticed that in the last game I had it happened very rarely, maybe because I haved used my PC alot today. I have all windows updates, and firewall and AV. I found alot of answers saying it was as simple as just changing LAN cables, this is a possibility for me first on tuesday though. I have all driver updates. But right now it is so rarely it really doesn't matter anymore. I will see on tuesday if it is better. If it is not I will try some of the other posibilitys than just changing LAN cables.
