I have talked with my dad about going to MLG's and his answer is always "Lets check your grades" So my question is.. Does anyone have a set schedule as a highschool student to manage School work and Starcraft Thank guys for help! much love <3

there's 24 hours a day. Assuming 8 hours of sleep, another 8 hours for school and commute to school, 1 hour of personal hygiene/eating, that leaves you with 7 hours of free time. Assuming 2 hours of homework/studying that's still potentially 5 hours of sc2.

i'll be pretty much in the same situation. As I was in the last few weeks of school. \

Luckily, my school has an online homework system, so as soon as I get to school I pretty much go straight to the library, and start getting homework out of the way. I also find I learn better this way. I do the homeworks as class goes on, and find I can get pretty much all of it done by the time it's last period.

Then go home and starcraft for 5+ hours XD

haha I did this with Halo 3...god am I that old that H3 was high school?...shit...anyways you'll have to really be willing to get very little sleep and have VERY focused practice sessions and as well as know when to put off some assignments til the morning before class and my suggestion is simply keep your love of sc alive and you'll make time to practice also say goodbye to a social life outside of sc seeing as if you really want to go pro it takes a LOT of work

I have this problem too. My problem is more a how do I apply myself efficiently with the time I have. I need to keep good grades but the only reason my grades are any good is because I'm smarter than everyone else. Any tricks to help me procrastinate less?

lol I have the exact same problem (especially since I go to a fucking "you study and not sleep and get 100 or go die in a ditch you pathetic worthless loser" style school). I was actually excited to hear about budget cuts because that probably means less work (fewer APs, less to fill my schedule, fewer extra curriculars, etc) and it's my senior year so hopefully after the damn college apps are done I can focus on my passion.

Also, you have a nice family, wow. My mom thinks the idea of going to an MLG is crazy, like there will be pedophiles everywhere and bandits in the hotel and whoever I go with is a thief or something like that. I mean, I'm not bashing her because she actually is cool with how much time I spend on the game, but that's just awesome lol.

Managing school work in high school with starcraft or any game for that matter is easy. Most high school's don't give a lot of work, and if they do it is usually very easy anyways. I played wow a lot in high school and was addicted to it, on many days I played it from the time i got home till i went to bed, and left maybe an hour for homework in there. I graduated with a 4.25 GPA (thats with honors and AP). I'm not sure how rigorous your school is, but it is still probably going to be very easy to manage.

If you really want to do some shortcuts though to allow more playing time, try doing some of your homework in class when you get done with everything, there were a lot of classes I took in high school where the work was so easy in class that I just flew through it, then did homework for another class for part of the time and was usually able to get finished with at least 1 or 2 classes worth of homework.

When you get into college, things become a different story though. You actually have to work hard on your school work outside of class there most of the time, when you get there I would recommend working on your school work some, then taking a break to play some starcraft in between so that way you don't completely bore yourself, and you can relieve some stress as well that comes from the school work, then go back to the school stuff, repeat, etc.

I would recommend getting the Memory Book by Harry Lorayne. He once memorized an entire Times Magazine (I don't remember the actual magazine, but it was one of the big ones) in a plane ride from LA to NY and recited bits of the magazine to the audience at a seminar. It was the issue for that day, so unless he got it leaked to him early there is no way he cheated. Obviously it will require extensive proficiency to attain that level of mastery, but it should really help you with your schoolwork after a couple weeks of practice.

What practicing for SC2 just ask yourself:
(1) What works?
(2) What doesn't work?
(3) How can I make it better?

You will improve dramatically. Don't practice based on the clock, do it based on where you want to progress to. If you focus on practicing efficiently you shouldn't need 4 hours of practice every day to compete in the professional foreign scene.

Time management and good studying habits. It's hard but that's what you need to do to successfully balance school and any other activity in life. Personally, I made maximum use of my time AT school. That means doing homework in class and during breaks as much as possible and actually paying attention in class. That sounds like 2 opposites but what I mean is pay attention in your harder classes; do homework in your easier classes. If you get assignments that you can't exactly do in class (like an essay, for example), start thinking about how you're going to complete it.

When you're in school, think only about school and not about sc2 (this is borderline impossible, I know). As a nerd who enjoys thinking about stuff like math and chem, I realize this is easy for me to say, but the thing is it works. The same logic applies to sc2. The more you think about perfecting that build order or microing better in that one battle, the easier it is when you actually execute it because you've had it on your mind for so long. Granted, in both school and sc2, thinking only gets you so far, but I hope you get what I mean. Thinking critically about school 8 hours a day while in school helps a ton when you study later. And really, being able to focus your mind on something without distracting yourself is a good life skill anyway.

Last (obvious) tip is seriously not to procrastinate on studying. Set a certain amount of time every day to study, AFTER you've finished your homework (btw, don't procrastinate on homework either). This can be 15 minutes or 2 hours: you decide, as long as you're seriously productive. The goal of this time is to review all (or as much as possible) the material you've learned up to this point in time, focusing on what you learned that day. The thing I always say that nobody listens to (because procrastinating is so cool) is that if you've been keeping up with the course material, there'll be no real need to study for exams. Of course, it's different for every class so you'll have to figure out how much time to allot for each class. Some might require 5 minutes a week while a really difficult one might need 5 hours a week. Maybe there'll be one concept that's just really difficult to learn; spend some time everyday on it until you get it. After some time of doing this, you'll start to learn how much time you really need and how to cut corners on your studying to maximize your time efficiency. It really pisses me off when everyone complains I don't study for exams and have so much time to play games when the reality is I actually study all school year. If you really do have good study habits, when exams hit and everyone else is cramming, you'll be laddering.

It most definitely is. You can get away with sleeping in class. Work? Not so much...

Just do what Tyler said:
"Finish everything you need to get done first, then devote the rest of your time to Starcraft."

Yeah.. I know with college and stuff.. you can do it... but, you're not going to be getting 8 hours of sleep a night. I'll usually get 6 hours per school day for sleeping... so that's 18 hours of non-sleep.

DON'T skimp on sleeping. For me a book helped me out a lot, called 'Take a nap:change your life". Cheesy as hell, but napping is crazy effective. Just don't skimp on sleeping, and don't waste time dreaming about starcraft when you have to do homework and vice versa.

You really are lucky to have a family that understands your passion for the game; I'm attending a community college until I have enough transfer credits to transfer to a 4-year university and my grades are consistently high. But until I transfer, I'm living at home; that means until I'm almost 20 I'll be at home. I don't own my own computer as of yet, and as such my time on my parent's computer has been limited severely. I once made the mistake of bringing up StarCraft as a potential future semi-professional hobby of some kind, and I got lectured (at 19 years old, mind you) for hours on the important of "priorities." My dad delayed his own education similarly in pursuits of making his garage band successful, and my own mom wanted to be an artists when she was my age. I still wonder why StarCraft is so different to them in their minds.

But anyways, this guy had the right track in mind:

there's 24 hours a day. Assuming 8 hours of sleep, another 8 hours for school and commute to school, 1 hour of personal hygiene/eating, that leaves you with 7 hours of free time. Assuming 2 hours of homework/studying that's still potentially 5 hours of sc2.

However, in that area of "Free Time" you have to consider a few things. Are you planning on entering a relationship? Lots of kids in high school start dating around your age. How much time does your family spend together? What about those days that your friends want to head out to Six Flags or just chill for a weekend? That all takes its toll on your free time; be sure to make sure that you get your ladder time in with minimal disruption to really important family and friend relationships. No matter how important the game gets to you, no matter how seriously you take it, no matter if you find the time to play it for 12 hours a day, make sure that those people have time with you and try not to blow them off just because you're playing Starcraft. I think that Starcraft is its own art form, and that it's possibly one of the most important things in my life. I ladder every spare second of the day that I can. But in the end; make sure those people have room in your life. Just advice I guess. I hate when people tell me stuff like this sometimes lol. But it's really important.

You just have to be really diciplined, you have to set away one or two hours a day to study and then no matter what when that time of the day comes you drop everything and study. Ex: I`m going to play starcraft all day but when it turns 8`o clock I have to study until 10 with no distractions

Getting above 3.0 while still being good at Starcraft is really not a hard goal.

Look at OptimusPrime (aka Polt). He's going to Seoul National University while being a progamer.

What this means for you is, just go to class and make the best of your time there by paying attention to your teachers and using whatever time they give you to either study or do homework. From my high school experience, whenever teachers finished their lectures early, they'd usually give you time to do work for their class. Don't bitch and moan about it, just use it.

When you get home, you should have enough time left to just finish your homework (2 hours MAX, this was true for me even with 5 AP classes), and maybe 1 or 2 more hours of studying. Any other time is your own. I would get home at 5/6 PM or later because of sports, so this often meant it'd be about 10 PM until I could play some starcraft. That still leaves you with about an hour.

If you use your time a little differently, you can probably squeeze in even more time for starcraft. Still on that time budget alone, I got to D+ on iccup, and I'm masters in SC2 while maintaining a 4.0 through high school. I still had enough time for doing other stuff as well. So, you can choose to balance it as you like, just make sure you're ACTIVELY using class time. Either learn from the teacher, or do some homework from another class if the teacher doesn't mind so your school time doesn't go to waste.

TL;DR Work when you need to, esp. during school. Then you can play when you want till you're tired enough to sleep.
