E3: Day 3, Our Final Frontier

Today was the last day of the Electronic Entertainment Expo and as Lauro "Geno" Pangilinan sailed through the downtown Los Angeles traffic, he found himself trying new games but mostly, just messing around and talking to a million other people about well absolutely nothing. The best part about today is that he actually got to see the WiiU in action and saw what it looked like first hand.

Well, I didn't eat waffles this morning that's something new. I actually woke up with the goal that I was going to take a lot more pictures and try to get as much swag as possible. There really is not too much to say because once I got into my friend's car, I was tired as hell from the last two days. We were mostly quiet until we decided to talk about the press conferences. The trip going there was also a lot faster than the previous days and the trip going back as well. The reason why it was faster was because there wasn't anyone trying to run across the freeway this time but typical LA traffic still prevails because it's always backed up somewhere.

The convention center was not as packed as the previous days either but I still have quite a bit to talk about. First off, we went into Nintendo's booth and went up to the higher level where people were trying the Kid Icarus Multiplayer but because it was so full, I just tried Excitebike instead. The game was okay, if anyone has played the old school one, it's pretty much the same but other than that, there wasn't anything notable about it. Some of my friends also tried Mario Kart and the new Pokedex thing and they said that it was pretty much the same as anything else except "3DS style".

The notable part was how we actually saw the WiiU in action and the actual size. We couldn't take pictures but if anything, we saw that it was a lot smaller than what pictures were leading on, also for the new Zelda game, the WiiU can be used as a shield instead of just look at inventory items from what we saw in the press conference unveiling. Another use of the WiiU was how it could be a steering wheel but we did not get to see any other functions of the console other than those two. There wasn't much else but I guess not all the functions were developed yet for the show floor (from what we could see anyway). The lines were still long to try all the other games and I really didn't feel like waiting in line at that point in time.

Another game I think I'll revisit is Final Fantasy XIII-2 from Square Enix which is available for both the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360. The game itself still possesses the graphical capability of Final Fantasy XIII but there are quite a bit of new features added into this title, especially for the battle system. The battle system is quite the same but in the middle of battle, a cutscene will occur and the player is forced to push buttons to do certain actions that will have an effect on the outcome of the battle. It made the boss battle a lot more dynamic and more exciting to people that are watching. Another interesting aspect is when a player is about to encounter an enemy, there is a gauge at the bottom of the screen that gives a chance for the player to attack the enemy so that it can trigger a preemptive strike and can result to destroying lower enemies before the battle even heats up. I didn't bother to read much of the story because it was only a demo to show off the new additions Square had for the battle system. Whoever, bought Final Fantasy XIII will probably pick this game up and for those who bought it and didn't (or just didn't pick it up) like it will most likely not care about this game. I still have a strong opinion about the battle system but those details are not needed for this report.

I did look at other games from smaller developers but most of them were MMORPGs that weren't notable or they pretty much looked like a graphically better Maple Story. Arkham City was also on my list of games to try but it wasn't available for me to play as was Duke Nukem Forever, Neverdead, and Star Wars: The Old Republic. I also did try Dungeon Siege 3 but I didn't note it because I thought the demo was already available on Steam. The only difference between the version that's on Steam and the one I tried was that mine was in 3D and at nVIDIA's booth. If people were wondering about Atlus and where they were at, well they were in the Concourse Hall which was in the middle of the two halls with all the companies and stuff but it was located in a much more obscure area that even finding it was a hell of a journey. They are currently working on a game called Catherine which seems like a perverted platformer game and there were posters of another Shin Megumi Tensei outside of Atlus but other than that, they aren't doing anything else. Riot Games was also there promoting a new champion for League of Legends but I don't have anymore information on that other than what I just told you. My friends also tried Harvest Moon and some other stuff but I'll update you guys later on everything.

For YOUR viewing pleasure.

I do have other photos that I will share with you guys now.

These photos are the front of the Staples Center and West Hall. I could literally turn to my right and Staples Center would be right there and if I walked straight I would encounter a barrage of gun fire from tanks and well there would be people as well I guess. Also displaying daily LA traffic.

This is the outside of South Hall and I turned directly left and I can see a lot of things but I didn't explore the outside because well I didn't think it was noteworthy.

Sega's booth stashes Captain America's gear.

This picture was taken at the Namco-Bandai booth and they were promoting a new Power Rangers game and I have to say, that game was hilarious just watching it because I could see my friend doing this jump attack and the power ranger in the game would lag mid air and somehow hit the goon in the head.

This was taken in between the booths of Square Enix and I think Namco-Bandai but my friend took a previous photo doing a gun pose so I decided to do a rifle one instead.

My friends and I asked if we could lift the chicken and they said yes to us but not to anyone else mainly because we were the only ones who asked. This was taken at the booth of the company that made Rune Factory and Harvest Moon.

You thought I had to deal with Hello Kitty for two years? Mario came back also.

Gears of War 3 release date and poster.

At Sony's booth, I decided to have a photo with characters from the Ratchet and Clank series. I almost didn't do it because my friend just did a really embarrassing Asian post that involves peace signs.

It's really nice that video game art is getting recognized. These were near Atlus and at the Target Lounge (the best E3 booth ever because they gave us drinks and pretzels).

Also, I did do something special for the ending of this E3, I decided to take a bunch of pictures at random places and here you guys go. There's a shoutout and messages for certain sites and people. I really hope you guys enjoyed reading this one and I hope to do this for everyone next year.

I suggest you go through the photos using this music.

The photos symbolize pretty much a normal day at E3 from the parking lot to the end which is my desk and where I typed all of this. I want to show all the communities and my friends my undying support and hopefully all of you liked it. I can't draw and I did make some mistakes but thank you, all of you for reading. I'll try to get more photos up as I go along also some more words from my friends if they gave me their takes on certain games. Also, to some people, sorry if I forgot you in the signs!

Thanks everyone! Seriously, thank you guys, I did some hardcore planning for those signs to work out the way it did. Like I said in the last part before the date for next year's E3, I wanted to show everyone a basic day at E3 which is from the parking lot to my desk at home. Hopefully it was creative enough!

Wow, looks like an awesome trip! I didn't think I would be interested in this sort of thing having abandoned console games for the most part, but those awesome plushies, figurines, and giant statues kinda brought back some fond memories.

Thanks for sharing this with everyone!

No problem. Also guys, I'm going to take pictures of all the loot I got and include it into a "Post E3" blog post.

Also short story about the TL shoutout post.

This one dude tried to get her to hold a sign also before I did but she said no so I went up and asked her to hold it and she said yes to me. The other guy was angry as hell and actually yelled "WHY HIM!?!?!" and he walked away, I lol'd.
