There has been some inquiries about my previous costumes and cosplay. I hope to walk you through my costumes and the development of my costume making skills.

Faris (Final Fantasy V)

After being dragged to an anime convention (Sakura-Con in Seattle) by friends and feeling utterly left out due to not having a costume. I decided to make a costume for the next convention. I decided to cosplay Faris, as I had just played FFV and loved her character. Also, I thought she looked like an utter badass in the trailer. My mother always loved making me costumes and offered to make the jacket if I put together the rest of the costume. I was 14 at the time, I believe, and had absolutely no sewing experience, so I hand stitched all of my armor. With glue, paint, gems and patience I created the armor, skirt, belt and boot accessories (not pictured, they didn't stick on well). I loved working on the costume, but put too much faith in the strength and usefulness of superglue. I later learned that other glues actually work better (my favorite being Modge Podge).

Ino (Naruto)

Yes, I did that. I always justify that I cosplayed Ino before Naruto was popular, it was back before you could even buy the headbands and before so much as an ounce of filler-episode. I helped designed the outfit, but my mother did most of the sewing. My mom watched Naruto more than I did, so this outfit was more for her than it was for myself.

Haruko (FLCL)

This outfit was probably my most popular one. Also, at the time, I think it was the hardest to make. I hand-dyed and modified the gloves, he material the dress is made out of is enough to make one scream and I forgot the white undershirt at home. I wore this at Anime Evolution (Vancouver, B.C.). However, it did provide me with an excuse to buy a pink wig, which I absolutely love and based my next costume off of! This was also the only costume I had a good set of professional photos for, a photographer kidnapped me!

Aries (Fairy Tail)

With Anime Evolution coming up again, I was unsure of what costumes to do! My mom and I had decided we'd make two, but which two was the question. We had both been reading Fairy Tail and really enjoyed the manga. I looked at Erza, the ass-kicking armor-clad beauty, but figured it would be way too much work with making two costumes! My mom then found some super shiny, super soft white fur and we decided on Aries, the innocent, helpless Celestial Spirit. Her coloring is rather vague, but a common version has her with pink hair and pink accessories. Due to the fact I already had a pink wig, we went with that version. This is the SOFTEST COSTUME EVER! I just can't stop touching myself when I wear it, so I really love it.

Bikini Aries (Fairy Tail)

Upon seeing there was a cosplay swimsuit contest at Anime Evolution, my mom immediately ran to the nearest fabric store, grabbed some white fur and made me a bikini in just a few minutes. My mom seems to have a love of showing me off, so I humored her and actually had a ton of fun in the contest! The crowd Q&A was definitely my favorite part, I really cracked them up! It might not be the best put-together costume, but it got some public attention!

Ruka Souen (Vampire Knight)

I wanted to do this costume purely because I love their uniforms. Seriously, I would have loved to go to a school with such awesome outfits! This was all my mom, she made this while I was off at college.

Alexstrasza (World of Warcraft)

This costume I did 100% by myself. The armor took WEEKS and involved many painful hours of gluing and using random objects in my room to hold the armor in place while it dried. However, all of the blood, sweat and love I put into this costume really makes it my favorite and I am so glad it was received so well!

Puck (Midsummer Night's Dream)

This is my version of Puck, as I discussed before in previous blogs. As we decided Oberon's faeries would be animal-like, I decided the trickster Puck would best be portrayed as a raven. The costume overall wasn't too difficult. I made most of it from scratch except for the jacket, which I made out of a black jacket I got at a thrift store. The paldrons were the most difficult part! Those feathers were so hard to sew in!

Holy crap I remember reading that article in the metro xD I read it all the time at work.

Your cosplay is awesome, even though I may not recognize most of the characters!

I like how each successive picture shows an older you and a more risque outfit (except for the last one). All in all, very impressive. I think the most impressive part is the fact that you build some of these entirely from scratch. I couldn't imagine undertaking such a task. Props to you and all cosplayers.

GW seems like a lot of work, I've always been interested in how people devote such time to this ( despite always seeming cool ) It seems really cool that you and your mom can do this together!

I am amazed that your mom is interested in anime. I like how my mom thinks manga/anime are for kids but when I tell her that her favorite drama (meteor garden) is based on a manga she gets mad.

Great work on those.

Do you change your hair often, like, dye it, cut it really short, or do you always wear wigs?

I think saying very cute isn't a bad thing o.o;

Yeah it's cute, also I love artwork having a sister who makes costumes, just not these kind =P.

I never had a talent for drawing or art in general. So always interesting to see.

My mom raised me on Totoro and Miyazaki films. She's such a geek and Japanophile!

My first cosplay would probably actually be the Sailor Moon outfit she made me when I was 7 years old. We used to watch Sailor Moon together, it was our bonding show.

I think my mom has read more manga than I have. She always buys it and checks it out from the library and then I come home to read what's left! Haha, I love her.

I never, ever, ever dye my hair. I haven't cut my hair much in three years, so it's down to my waist (not hips, waist). I do own 7-8 wigs and plan on buying more! :D

That is an impressive set of costumes. It amazing to me the amount of work and detail good cosplay costumes have, especially when they are homemade from scratch.

this is very neat but I was wondering as to why you posted it in TL, I know quite well that blogs are about any life experiences but why have you been drawn to TL, SC fan? if so starcraft cosplay usually seems like a huge challenge but very cool if pulled off well, would love to see a starcraft related cosplay from you!

Very cool, I wonder if you ever plan to do perhaps A Sylvanas Winrunner, Lady Vasjh or Maiev cosplay(3 of my favorite female characters from the Warcraft III universe), although Sylvanas and the likes of Jaina would probably be a bit too generic.

I would recommend posting screenshots of the characters that you made costumes of since I personally have not seen all of them before.

They all look pretty cool though.

Haha, thank you.

I feel like some artists have talent, but most just put in hours and hours of practice. Personally, I feel like costuming requires very little talent, but a lot of structured creativity! It's less about figuring out what to make and more about how to make it!

As was answered by another poster. Yes, I play SC (FOR THE SWARM!). I also have a lot of good friends who are active members of TL. Plus, I went to school where both Day[9] and QXC did, so the passions here for SC run deep!

I am definitely considering a SC cosplay. Probably a mech version of a SC ship or a cute baneling outfit. I'm considering the Raven, but I am unsure as of now.

My general rule of thumb is to avoid cosplaying anyone who requires body paint. After my Alexstrasza costume, I've decided to go with one of other Blizzard's franchises for Blizzcon this year.

Really interesting to see how you went about making the costume since there really isn't a well defined 'look' for him.

I'd be interested to see how these costumes come together. The incredible amount of construction required for your WoW costume makes me wonder just how certain parts were made (such as the pointy fingers. What were they made out of, and how were they attached?)..

Please do a blog with a photo journal of putting a costume together!
