So, after about a week of not playing 1v1s since I enjoy 3s and 4s to do random/weird/crazy strats, I decided to play some since my friends already had enough for 4v4.
The second game I get into was a ZvZ in Scrapstation, I sigh and basically decided against the typical retarded b/ling fest that is ZvZ and decided to go a roach opening. After I fought him his initial push after losing a ton of my drones to his blings I decided to push with my handful of roaches enough to kill more than its cost in lings while leaving a few behind in my base for possible run-bys. Forcing him to make spinecrawlers/lings so he couldn't power drone after the damage he did to me.
So I kill alot of lings and harassed his bling nest down to like 1/3 and starts retreating back my base with the few roaches that survived and he says:
"fuck ur bad"
"whats with all the terrible zerg"
So at this point I'm guessing hes talking about my roach opening that he somehow got behind in econ to.. while this is happening I see him morphing in alot of banelings near my base with my overlord, so I move my roaches to intercept them and kill them all, so at this point I knew I was way ahead since I was getting an expo up and he wasn't. Shortly after I see him with a bunch of lings & 1 drone at his nat, figured this would be the time to push since he's probably saving up and not making many units. As I push towards him he decides to hide his units at the platform near the expo, I see this with my overlord and proceed to move my roaches over there and kill them. He goes:
"rofl ok"
"ur fucking trash kid fuckignmap hack to kill yourself"
and ragequits
then he proceeds to try and harass me after the game while I'm trying to add more fuel to his anger xD

So, has ZvZ really degraded to go ling/bling every single game? Personally I hate ling/bling every game so I go roaches sometimes and surprise the other player and it works well most of the time as they usually have no idea how to respond.

It doesn't have to but you have map control with ling/bling. You can respond to roaches as ling bling and come out ahead. So yeah ling/bling in the early game is just better imo.
Also I like ZvZ. Although I was the ling had a small hp buff so it took 2 blasts or 1 blast and a couple hits from a ling to kill.

In my zvzs I encounter maybe about 50% roaches. Also I love it when someone bms and I beat them

On anything but scrap station, sling/bling is pretty standard (roach openings really don't work that well - they're too slow, and your opponent has full map control until you get like 15 roaches).

People claim that zvz is just ling baneling is because they see it on some stream, and all the zergs they have fought do ling baneling, The reason it works is that. Even if the opponent goes roaches, you still have map control, you can expand, you can tech. This is the sole reason they go metabolic boost before banelings.
Because if you go roach, they dont need to go baneling. They can just spend the gas on lair, take an expo and check up on if you are going to go allinn roach or if you are just stalling for lair.
Both openings work, depending alot on map etc. Scrap station is a perfect example of how the wide ramp makes it hard to go roach as you usually would want to take an expo if you go roach.

Had some guy get mad because I went speedling without banelings and outmicroed his ling/baneling. Some people are just bitter when they lose

I had a similar story. I massed Speedling/Bling like usual against a Roach opening. I throw my Evo Chamber down right as I scout to decide to go either Armor or Attack upgrade. He went Roaches so I got my quick +1 Attack which makes Lings dominate Roaches. But he also had no defense so I killed half his worker line with blings. After he tries a few cute pushes, I eventually overrun him and he says:
"how does it feel to just mash the z button like a retarded child"
So I reply:
"u make roaches in zvz and call me retarded"

You know, I actually thought I played somewhat badly cause of what he said and the fact that I haven't played 1v1 in a week until I saw the replay, my apm was actually higher and made better decisions than him. I did play worse than a week ago though, I would easily average 100+ apm, so I dropped about 20-30 apm over the week since 3s/4s isn't really micro intense and that I was doing all these crazy builds.

Heh. i dont open roach on scrap station. too wide of a ramp. but on smaller ramps ill put two rows three roaches spaced apart to avoid bling splash. with two walls on your ramp feel free to drone up and tech.

People like that are just sore losers who think they're better than everyone else. That's just how some people are. I've encountered several in SC:BW, and it still pisses me off till this day that they think they're so high and mighty.

I think roach openings are decent. You can tech up, expand, or go for a timing attack, so it's fairly versatile. I usually do the latter right before their mutas pop and win the vast majority of the time in this scenario. That said, I don't play at the very top level, so maybe roaches become obsolete once your opponent can optimally abuse their map control advantage. Also, Scrap Station is a weaker map for it.
I can't stand people like royal. Kudos for making him the laughingstock of tl.

thats not true for players like royal who have never tried a roach opening so they just dismiss it and assume lings should roll over roaches. only ppl that have at one point tried roach opening and failed or figured out when to use it should ever comment on when its viable.

There are very few instances where it's appropriate to say that besides joking around with your friends and what happened was one of them. He was already furious and saying it just added fuel to the fire and I wanted to see what he would say next.

the only trouble I have with roach openings/I abuse against roach openings is it's hard to stop a large group of banelings from walking into your drone line. Other than that, and map control, roaches are awesome at fighting ling/bling.

Those people are using it wrong, it's suppose to be used to really rile people up. When you win and they start raging about how 'xx is imba' or how noob you are for doing xx. It takes a second to type and suits any type of whining fine. You have to make sure that's the only thing you type too, it has a stacking effect.

It depends on the map, like on Scrap Station, roach openings are very good, but on most maps, yes, blings are used a lot more
