LeBron James recently had a shoot with the magazine GQ. He also was interviewed about the Cleveland Cavaliers and Dan Gilbert. Here is what he had to say:

"I don't think [Gilbert] ever cared about LeBron," James is quoted as saying. "My mother always told me: 'You will see the light of people when they hit adversity. You'll get a good sense of their character.' Me and my family have seen the character of that man."

Now I find this hilarious and I'll tell you why.

Let's analyze this quote and break it down piece by piece. First this:

I don't think he ever cared about LeBron

LeBron accuses of Dan Gilbert of not caring about him. I find this to be false due to several reasons. One reason is that LeBron James got a 100 million dollar contract while playing for Cleveland. If Gilbert didn't care, he wouldn't have paid you an absurd amount of money, he would have given you a reasonable contract. Secondly, Dan Gilbert isn't supposed to care about you. He should care about the team not individual players. He isn't a babysitter LeBron, he is the owner of a franchise who wants to win a NBA Championship for the city of Cleveland. If he didn't care about you LeBron, why did he make you the franchise player? Why not a guy like Shaq? Why not Big Z? I cannot fathom why LeBron would say this. There is so much evidence to the contrary. Moving on:

My mother always told me: "You will see the light of people when they hit adversity. You'll get a good sense of their character"

You are absolutely right LeBron. We did see the character of you while under adversity. You cracked under pressure. You lost to the Celtics and then left. Am I accusing you of quitting. Maybe but the fact remains that you went to Miami instead of staying in Cleveland where everybody loved you and supported you. And now you have ruined it. When the going got tough, LeBron left for Miami to go and play with his buddies Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade. You didn't tough it out with the Cavs because nothing was to your standards. The fired the coach and tried to hire someone that you like. But in the end, you basically stabbed the whole city in the back. I find it rather odd you would question Gilbert's character when everybody is questioning yours.

James was also quoted saying this:

"It's not far, but it is far. And Clevelanders, because they were the bigger-city kids when we were growing up, looked down on us. ... So we didn't actually like Cleveland. We hated Cleveland growing up. There's a lot of people in Cleveland we still hate to this day."

Way to bury yourself deeper LeBron.

Y'know, you may wonder where all this hate against "The King" is coming from but you have nobody to blame but yourself. In one article you have managed to be a hypocrite, insult the city of Cleveland once more and not take any responsibilty for your actions.

We live in a world where professional athletes like James are making more than we will in our entire lives and he's crying because Dan Gilbert and others had nasty comments towards him. Here's my question: Why should we even feel sorry for this guy? As said above he make millions of dollars, he's doing something he loves and he still paints himself as a victim. I'm going to say something that my dad usually told me when I complained.

Cry me a river.

I often laugh (silently) when mortals question the character and motivations of a King. Who are you to question why the sky is blue, why the Earth moves or why a King does as he will? To Kings like LeBron and Myself, you are a cockroach, bold enough to defy us in the darkness, but will scatter under cover when we bring light.

It is beneath me to discuss this "Dan Gilbert", who weeps like a scorned mistress and gnashes her teeth through her tears. She should just feel relieved that Gracious King James didn't stoop lower to put her in her place like she deserves.

It is most uncouth for us to discuss matters of money with the poor, but as a jest: do you really think the trifle few millions that make any shred of difference to a King? Peasants trade in money, Kings trade in power.

You shame yourself with this public spectacle. Don't you have onions to farm or filthy children to spawn? One would be advised to keep one's snout to himself, lest it get cut off.

Hmm... Perhaps I, myself, will summer next year in Miami, to party with a true King and absorb some of that premium Miami trim.

Besides referring to himself in the third person (that's fuckin arrogant) what's wrong here??

The contract says absolutely nothing about caring. The number was set that high because who the hell wouldn't give Lebron a max contract?? Neither does making him the franchise player. See how far your club runs with a 37 year old Shaq as it's face or Big Z. That designation means the player is skilled enough to build around, not that everyone loves him.

And your owner should absolutely care about his franchise player. If he is unhappy, he may exercise his given right of going elsewhere in Free Agency.

Saying the thinks the owner never cared about him could mean a ton of things... it was pretty obviously left ambiguous. It could mean that LeBron thought that he didn't care enough to actually try to give him a halfway decent supporting cast instead of coattail riders. Hell, it could mean that Lebron was pissed about negotations. Maybe the owner's big draw was 'Your supporting cast?? Who cares?! EVERYONE LOVES YOU HERE MAN!! WOOO'

Besides the stupid third person talking crap, i don't see why anyone is so worked up. The team sucked around him. The management did little to improve that. Firing a coach that came off 60 win seasons basically screams that those 60 wins all came on the back of Lebron and no one else. And character, I think the adversity quote speaks to how the owner looked acted like a little 12 year old whose XBOX broke when LeBron decided to leave. He trashed his name, talking about how he's a quitter and what not.

How many quitters do you offer $100m contracts to?

you left out the worst part.

""I love our fans. Cleveland fans are awesome," he told GQ. "But I mean, even my family gets spoiled at times watching me doing things that I do, on and off the court.""

seriously he just needs to stfu and play basketball...

Why are we still caring about this? The guy is an arrogant douche, and that whole 1 hour show thing just screams ego. On top of that he travels like crazy. The refs let him get away with so much shit. Lebron left Cleveland. Boo Hoo. He had no obligation to the city after his contract ended anyway.
Morrow on ZvP: "I'm not very confident in general vs Protoss because of the imbalance (Yes its imbalanced, get over it)."

This.
Sounds like another person who is just upset that he left Cleveland.
He's gone.
Get over it.
At least he didn't go to New York .

The man had the drive to win a few championship titles. He played many years for his hometown, but couldn't carry the entire team. If he wants to join the winner's team in Miami, I ain't blamin' him.

He's got a helluva ego but watch the Big 3 stomp on everyone's faces.

Good for him.

And good for you to criticize someone's reasoning which hasn't gone through college.

EDIT: If you're going to criticize a professional player, please refrain from criticizing anything other than how he got to where he is: by being a good basketball player. In my opinion, it's analogous to criticizing a mathematician's writing.

1. ESPN approached and paid him to do the special. He didn't pocket the money either, it was given to charity.

2. Seven years without a championship. Who's to blame? Lebron? The team? Management?

3. Dan Gilbert lost his franchise player. Do you think he wouldv'e written anything good, regardless of the TV special? Gilbert has no one else to blame but himself for failing to bring in players to help Lebron and the Cavs grasp a title.

If you're a professional sports player, and if you don't strive for gold, you're in it for nothing but the money. You've said to yourself, "I've made it into the league, time to sit back and collect the millions".

Of course, Lebron joining a championship contending team is all about the money, right?

Get your head out of the bandwagon's ass and realize the facts from Lebron's point of view.

Will LeBron still be a quitter when the Cavs get under 25 wins this season?? Or will be be a really fucking good player who had absolutely no supporting cast--perhaps that's the reason he left!

It's kind of similar to how McNabb was treated in Philly. Management was too incompetent to give him proper support for most of his career and the fans are too stupid to realize it.

And yet, despite all of this, I'm pretty sure none of you guys who are bashing on him have ever donated $2.5 million to a charity. I give the man some props for at least having good intentions, even if they were misguided.

and let's be honest, everybody travels. If the refs called travelling every time someone traveled, no one would watch basketball.

Also, to the OP

How long do the tough bash their foreheads against a brick wall before they realize that it's not going to fall down? 7 years is my guess.
