Everyone on this site loves Blizzard (or should at least). I'm wondering what your other favourites are. This can be anything. For example, you could say Nintendo or Xbox 360 or PS3. You could also say Valve, Ubisoft, Rockstar, Capcom, etc. I will predict that NOBODY in this thread will say Activision and neither will I. Here are some of my favourites:
Man, these guys could not be stopped in the late 90's-early 2000's. They had Perfect Dark, GoldenEye, Diddy Kong Racing, Donkey Kong Country, Conker's Bad Fur Day and one of my favourite video game series of all time, Banjo-Kazooie. Now every game they seem to make is poorly made. Why Rare? Why was Nuts + Bolts so bad?
Have to include these guys. Such great games like Devil May Cry, Mega Man, Marvel vs. Capcom, Street Fighter, Resident Evil and, again one of my personal favs, Dead Rising. They still produce quality games (case in point: RE5) but the Mega Man franchise has been average over the last few installments.
What happened? Sonic, Nights, Alex Kidd. Oh you guys were so good. Too bad that you don't have a home console anymore. Shame. Really had an underrated game in Jet Set Radio.
Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal. Valve is one of my favourites and they make good, quality games.
SUPER SMASH BROTHERS!!!
Anyway, what are your favourites?
Camelot for the Golden Sun series plus all the ones you mentioned lol
Square Enix, FF and kingdom hearts :D
Square Enix for making games that can be considered art.
Valve for making the best science fiction games, and half life, the indisputably best single player fps game.
Zynga for keeping non-gamers away from games. May those people never pollute our delicate community.
Intelligent Systems, though they seem to phone it in a lot in my opinion.
Rare was really great back then, I don't know what happened either.

Bungie is pretty cool. Kinda excited to find out more about this:
On April 29th, 2010, Bungie announced that it was entering into a 10-year publishing agreement with publisher Activision Blizzard to bring a new IP to multiple platforms. Under Bungie's agreement with Activision, new intellectual property developed by Bungie will be owned by Bungie, not the publisher, a rare agreement in the video game industry.
Bioware. Those RPGs are just too awesome.
Not exactly video games, but Wizards of the Coast does good work. Nintendo used to be awesome, but these days they're selling out to the non-gamer crowd, which is understandable because it makes them a shit-ton of money, but I'm still mad. SSBM is my second favorite game after BW, though...
Creative Assembly for the Total War series. Valve is pretty self explanatory. id for Doom and Quake.
Bioware is pretty much #1 for me. They don't put out a whole lot of games, but anybody who plays pc games should be well aware of their awesomeness. I have lots of faith in them developing The Old Republic into a great mmorpg that will rival WoW.

All game companies of the best of 16 bit games... Rare, Sega, Nintendo, Capcom, Square Enix

Is this assuming Activision doesn't just drop it and then file a lawsuit agaisnt Bungie later?

I could have mentioned loads of Rare games. Viva Pinata, Jet Force Gemini, Star Fox Adventures (remember that one?), Grabbed by the Ghoulies, etc.
I adored Rare back in the day when they were still with Nintendo. A lot of fans of Rare will tell you that as soon as they made the switch to 360, everything went to hell.
BattleToads still rules though

I think I'm go with Ensemble. AoE2, AoM were all amazing games that I played thoroughly :>
not as unique with units but still amazingly fun.
Falcom for sure.
pretty much everything you stated above, supernova =P
so many good games that i loved/still love
Infinity Ward for making COD1and Arena Net for Guild Wars.
Consistently churning out most of the best RPGs in the world.
To pick a developer that isn't too famous.. I'll pick "Pixel Junk" Look 'em up!
I would pick bioware, due to Baldurs gate.. But they went mainstream with dragonage, so now i kinda hate 'em :<
Black Isle Studios - Planescape: Torment and the first two Fallout games are the best RPGs ever.
Need some love for relic and Company of Heroes :0
Capcom for Zelda games. Fucking awesome. Great Wii Zelda games especially twilight princess.
Nintendo wins it for me, they make the most consistently good games and have the best new ideas.
If I had to pick a favourite PC developer though I would have picked Blizzard a few months ago but now I'd have to pick Valve.

RIP
Super Metroid, Super Mario World, A Link the the Past, Super Mario Bros 1-3, Zelda, Metroid, Super Mario 64, Saving the entire industry, Majoras Mask, Ocarina of Time, Super Mario Galaxy 1-2, Wind Waker, Earthbound Super Mario Sunshine, Kirby, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart Metroid Fusion, Mother 3, Metroid Zero Mission etc etc etc.
Yeah, Nintendo are the best. Even though I don't like the company in itself.
Relic and THQ for making all the warhammer 40k games
Atlus. Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne is the best jrpg I've ever played. That and Persona 3.
Konami MGS, Castlevania, Suikoden and much more.
And everything that's already mentioned here like valve and bioware.
Valve is my new favorite game company, blizzard used to be my favorite. Now a days blizzard is more like some evil empire.
My favorite by far has to be Team Ico. Shadow of the Colossus is simply the best game I've ever played and is my favorite game ever.
Also a fan of Bioware, but to a much lesser degree. Played KotoR and Mass Effect and occasionally go back to play them sometimes.
And I have to say ArenaNet. Played Guild Wars since release and logged well over 5k hrs into it.
Honourable mention
yeah, bioware is cool. some other good companies from the past: looking glass studios, new world computing, microprose. (those were the days...) and i'd like to add nadeo for making the most addictive freeware racing game ever. (trackmania)

Oh man I totally forgot about Bioware, best rpgs ever.
Bungie or Square Enix, can't decide between the two.
square enix cuz they made super mario rpg (and some other good stuff too)
riot cuz they made league of legends free and there are lots of poor people who love that
When people thought integrating music with game was impossible (besides simple ones like PaRappa the Rapper), Konami Game/Music division made a huge success through Beatmania in arcades. Honoring the game, they renamed the division to Bemani.
Bemani produced several games such as Beatmania, Beatmania III, Beatmania IIDX series, Pop'n'Music, Parapara Paradise, Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Freaks, and Drummania (About 6~8 years before Harmonix used Bemani's Guitar Freaks and Drummania idea to make Guitar Hero and Rock Band).
Valve for making kickass games (HL, HL2, Portal, TF2, etc.)
Valve, Arc System Works, and id Software come to mind.
Who doesn't like Half-Life, BlazBlue, and Quake? :3
i can't believe no one mentioned s2 gaming, they have amazing production quality on all their products and they actually listen to the community on a daily basis.
For the RoT3K and Genghis Khan games
EA for need for speed, FIFA, NBA live and more titles. id for doom/quake Sierra for all the GREAT adventures 3D realms for Duke Nukem "Ive come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass.And Im all out of gum" taken from the movie "they live" LucasArts for Monkey Island, KOTOR etc
