I challenge you to find a 15 inch laptop with 9800M GTS that costs $700. .... you may want to reread what I wrote Anyways the Gateway is a marvelous laptop but it's not what sLiniss is looking for. it's like he said "hey guys what do you think of this motorcycle" and you're saying "well it's nice but this car is cheaper and has way more features"

But here's an example OP might have a prudent use for: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220746 For the almost same price you get a 17" screen opposed to an 11" AND 4gb ram to 2gb (which more than make up the slight lower cpu than the m11x's). And guess what? THEY BOTH HAVE THE SAME GPU. starfries, I customized a m15x with similar specs with a worse GPU as the m11x's. The 15" wasn't even close to half the price. The 15" actually costs about 50% more. EDIT: I think the analogy that a motorcycle is to an 11" as a car is to a 17" is totally wrong. It might actually be closer to say that the car is to a desktop, but the analogy is wrong nonetheless. I mean, how else are you going to carry an 11"? You're probably still going to carry it in a backpack or a laptop bag the same way you would a 17".

I compared the recent computer that I bought off Newegg with an Alienware one with the same specs. It turned out to be $1500 vs $4000, and I'm getting better hardware from newegg. I think putting the label 'gaming computer' on a pc really makes the price skyrocket. I agree with you, a computer I was looking at on Newegg was 900$ and it was amazing. Then I actually looked up all of the parts separately because I wanted to upgrade the graphics card and it was even cheaper! So yeah, the people you are paying to put together your machine need to make a living so it is more expensive, I'm talking about desktops because those are extremely easy to put together but laptops are a different story. If you do not know how to make a computer go with this, if you are tech savvy then I would suggest making your own.

But if you just want the specs of the m11x and you're fine with 15" or up you can get them for cheaper in a consumer HP or Dell laptop.

Still on the fence between the Alienware M11x and the MSI GX640, but the mobility should be great for going back to school.

EDIT: And if you are using an external monitor, you can adjust the resolution seperately, so the guy above who said it was like playuing in 1/4 of windowed mode or w/e is wrong, I play SC2 on my 23 inch LED monitor just fine at like 1800x1080 or whatever it is

You know, I realise that USB and internet downloads are starting to make CDs obsolete, but what if you ever want to rip something, or someone from the 90s travels forward in time to give you a mix CD of their favourite Beach Boys songs? You're gonna kick yourself. You can buy an external DVD drive for like 50 bucks ....
