Poll: Do you think this is a cool post? (Vote): yes (Cowboys) (Vote): no (little babies) So basically my University has this dumb idea that parking meters are better than year long parking permits with fees. So some dumb bitch set up all this meters around the parking lots on campus, and now I'm supposed to pay them. Here's the bullshit part of it all. The fucking things only allow 2 hour time limits, at $.90 an hours. So unless you're getting nickles and dimes involved, you're paying for time you don't get. Now I don't know about you, but I'm often in class for more than two hours. Shit, I have classes that go for more than two hours. So how the fuck am I supposed to pay the meters. And naturally, the stupid people who think the police academy will like the fact that they gave college students tickets wait until just before class lets out to give out the tickets. So when I have a two hour and twenty minute class, I can't pay for all of it, and it doesn't matter because even if I do they will get me in the last twenty minutes.
So I said fuck this shit. I'm not gonna pay the meters. Turns out the stupid fucks have no way of tracking your car unless you register it. So I unregistered it. Now they give me tickets, I say to go fuck yourself. I mean, all me paying them would do is contribute to the salary of the stupid shit that gave me the tickets in the first place. Doesn't seem like much incentive to me...

you'll probably get slapped with a shit ton of citations later on...

They said once it got to $150 on one car, they would tow it. Well, I sold my old car this winter, so as long as I keep the total under $150 by May 15... At only $7 a ticket, it isn't too hard.

While you were asking them what will happen if you didn't pay it, did you also ask them what you should do if you have a class that is two hours and twenty minutes long?
|
Wow, can't you bring someone's attention to how retarded that is? or did you leave something out that you're not telling us ;P

What university is this... I wanna know lolll
|
Man...the school is genius!
|
That's SUCH good way to make money.
|
yepp pretty much the same shit here. either pay like $300/semester for a parking pass, which is still bad because half the time you can't find a parking spot in the designated areas, or you park at a meter for $1.25/hr with a two or three hour time limit, not sure.
|
wtf... going back and paying for parking every 2 hours would be the biggest pain in the ass if you had a full day of uni with classes scatterd all across campus.... Not to mention if you have pracs (literally all the pracs ive had so far have been >2 hours, and thats just first and second year =\)
edit: also, have u thought about public transport? It's actually cheaper for me to just tram to and from uni than pay ridiculous parking fees at my uni.
|
Lol it's funnier here. Sometimes they put the tickets in very insecure places, so if say it is windy the ticket blows away. Now, if your car is not registered for whatever reason, they never contact you again for the rest of eternity, and after some months they contact a crediting agency which finds your contact info from your license plate and charges you mad late fees :D
|
5/5
I know what you're going through. Campus police are jackasses and the parking meters are fucking retarded.
|
don't you have a student organization or some shit that could deal with this?

I don't pay for school parking either, I just park down the road and it's only like a 2 minute walk lol. The fees aren't as bad as you describe, but still not worth paying imo

Administration-heavy environments thrive on this kind of bullshit. A group of faceless entities had a meeting somewhere and someone laid out this beautiful masterful plan to make a shitload of money for practically no cost. The motion was passed instantly.
Maybe 5 years from now, someone who matters will be annoyed by this, but they'll likely just give themselves exceptions to the parking rules that students have to follow.
@micronesia: I know you mean well, man, but sometimes things just don't make sense, and the people responsible for them are just crooked. The president of the university sees this new parking thing as more money he can budget around for political purposes and for personal gain. It's how the system works.
|
I'm glad I go to a small school. If they tried to pull that here, the student body would rise as one and slay those responsible.
|
My school has 11 parking garages around campus but even some of them are like 1+ mile away from campus. It's easiest here to just take a bus, they come very frequently and are free for students. I usually just bike to school.

I think I'd rather be a little baby than a cowboy...just saying. Didn't vote in your poll.

This will get their attention.

I know of numerous instances where similarly ridiculous situations were occurring at universities and confronting the president directly forced him to take action... they can't publicly be 'in' on something that would be so unpopular since they are politicians.

So basically they want to make the on campus parking short term and the problem you're describing is based around your desire to use it for longer than that. Rather than them not understanding your situation it appears that you don't understand theirs. It's not that they don't know people might want to park for more than 2 hours, it's that they don't want you to park there for more than 2 hours. Your problem is that they want people like you to park elsewhere. Maybe there weren't enough spaces to go round or people were parking in them all day which meant other people with more pressing, short term needs, couldn't use the spaces.
Perhaps this was what they were hinting at when

0.90 dollars per hour ?!?! It's $3.50/hour here at my university.. It used to be $3.00/hr just last year, but jacked up the prices yet again.
|
protip: save you citation envelopes and just stick them in the window when you park
i literally got thru about four years of undergrad before i finally got caught, and all the fees cost less than the actual parking would have
|
It sounds like your best bet is to park in a relatively close by lot and take the bus from there. Buses are often free for students, even if not it's still probably better than paying their parking fees. I did this with the place I worked.
On a completely unrelated note, fuck yea for having an ST reference as your nick =]
