So, day 10 has arrived. I really hope you guys are actually listening to albums that aren't in the genres you normally listen to. If you do, good on you, I hope you've heard something interesting that you'll give a try. If not, then please try it out.

1. Agalloch - The Mantle
What? Folk metal
When? 2002
Why? Combining folk and doom into the most atmospheric metal. Bit of post-rock sound too. Brilliant!
Show me! + Show Spoiler +

2. Modest Mouse - The Lonesome Crowded West
What? Indie
When? 1997
Why? I had classic Kings of Leon yesterday, here is classic Modest Mouse. Good for the same reason too: it has an unadulterated Modest Mouse sound to it.
Show me! + Show Spoiler +

3. AC/DC - Back in Black
What? Classic Rock
When? 1980
Why? As the second highest selling album of all time, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to include it here. Still, if you haven't listened to it recently, do it now!
Show me! + Show Spoiler +

4. Gang Starr - Moment of Truth
What? Hip hop
When? 1998
Why? One of the first jazz-influenced hip hop albums, it is a genre defining album. Also, a whole album produced by DJ Premier...
Show me! + Show Spoiler +

5. Émilie Simon - Émilie Simon
What? Trip hop / Pop
When? 2003
Why? A bit of Bjork , but more contemporary and much sexier without losing its creativity.
Show me! + Show Spoiler +

It's lots of fun doing these, they remind me of so much music that I love listening to. Anyway, let me know what you think! Also, go check out the earlier blogs if you missed them, there's a few e-cookies that I'm still waiting for answers for.

Disclaimer: The title says that it is Daigomi's guide to good listening. That means its my opinion. Feel free to disagree as long as you provide reasons; I enjoy a good discussion as much as the next person. Also, I just like listening to music, I don't give a shit for the political implications of any music.

+ Show Spoiler [E-Cookie winners to date] +
Day 4 - Eti307 - Wale sampling Yann Tiersen
Day 8 - - Name a song that samples Rodriguez's Sugar Man.
Day 9 - - Which tv game's music is sampled in Percee P's 2 Brothers From The Gutter

1. Agalloch - The Mantle - Nice and enjoyable. It's definitely a interesting mix of folk and metal with some post-rock characteristics. I'm not sure how I feel about the growling and singing since I'm not a particular fan of doom or metal but at least it kinda goes along with the music.

2. Modest Mouse - The Lonesome Crowded West - Blocked in my country apparently =(. I know there is a fairly big loyal following of Modest Mouse but I've never really liked their stuff. I'll have to revisit their music.

3. AC/DC - Back in Black - Fun music =).

4. Gang Starr - Moment of Truth - Good stuff. Very clear lyrics and enunciation in hip-hop almost always is a plus in my books. For some reason the production seems slightly off (lyrics seem slightly too loud compared to the beat/music).

5. Émilie Simon - Émilie Simon - If I think of French music this is what I'd imagine. Likable stuff but not something I'd listen regularly.

1. Exactly, it's the growling goes with the music perfectly.
2. Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the newer Modest Mouse, but I really think the old albums had a lot to offer. Modest Mouse had an identity, and it comes through very strongly in Lonesome Crowded West.
3. Yep. Great for driving too!
4. It might be a problem with linking youtube videos; I'm never quite happy with the sound quality. It doesn't bother me on my recording. Its also possible that there's a difference between older hip hop and newer hip hop. I just compared it to a Lli Wayne album, and the backing music is definitely softer on the Gang Starr album. Not really sure. Could mean that the rapping used to be seen as more important, while today its more about the way in which the rapping mixes with the music. Interesting thing to point out.
5. Haha, I like it because it makes me think of france perfectly (even though I know its not). Emilie Simon covers Iggy Pop's I wanna be your dog on one of her albums, and it sounds so insanely sexual, haha.

I do my best to listen to everything you throw up even if I think I might not like it , because I know how happy I would be if more people would explore the music I love.

Modest Mouse is one of my favorite bands, but I must admit that I wish they would revisit their old style more often, like on LCW and The Moon and Antarctica. The new stuff is pretty all-right, but it seems overproduced. Isaac's gotta do more drugs again.

EDIT: Bjork is sexier than anything. Except for Modeselektor remixing Bjork.

To all who are raving about Agalloch, you should check out Wolves In The Throne Room ... Also brilliant atmospheric black metal.

I think Ashes Against the Grain would've been a better choice of album to showcase Agalloch's sound :p

Haha, especially with metal, I've got about 20 bands that are the best band ever too. Agalloch is one of them

Moon and Antarctica is my second favourite Modest Mouse. I feel about the new things like I feel about the new Kings of Leon. If it was any other group's debut, I would have been impressed, but I know what their music can sound like, so it's a bit of a let down.

Haha, I love Bjork, but I don't think her music is particularly sexy :p Thanks for the song though!

I have Diadem of 12 Stars and Two Hunters, both are very nice albums. To me, Diadem is a bit closer to black metal than Agalloch is, while 12 Stars is a bit more symphonic than Agalloch. Good idea for a recommendation though, next time I put on Agalloch I should rather listem to them

To me, Agalloch's sound has changed a lot over the years. They have their old albums like Pale Folklore which is more black metal-ish, and then they have their newer albums like Ashes Against the Grain which is much clearer. I chose The Mantle specifically because it's right in the middle of these two sounds. If you haven't listened to Pale Folklore (or even Of Stone, Wind, and Pillor) yet, then give it a try. They really are amazing.

Username is just Daigomi on last.fm We'll see when A Tribe Called Quests comes out. The only thing I dislike about them is that they still have the old-school form of delivery, where all lines are perfectly metred. Still, that's a bit like complaining that Led Zeppelin didn't have a rapper in them to make it more interesting :p I'll definitely mention them somewhere.

Haha, Lil' Wayne is one of my most listened artists this year :p Tha Carter III really is damn good. I will try to give a hip hop album every day, if that helps you :p So far I've recommended 10 hip hop albums, and five more in my guide to hip hop, so that should give you something to do for the next few days :p

Yeah, I have a global hotkey in my foobar that adds an ID3 tag that just adds a tick in "Favourite songs," so that I can mark songs I hear that are awesome while I'm doing something else. Lonesome Crowded West has like 4 ticks, which I think is more than any other album I have
