I live in California, so my summer doesn't start until ~June 20 so I can't really participate in programs that start before then. It would also help if the applications process wasn't the most competitive, as my achievement list is fairly modest.

I've done it since the beginning of my Junior year; the training was free here, the people are nice and it's pretty nifty to be in high school with some serious skills. It's not exactly what you're looking for but I just thought I'd throw it out there this good idea... no physics research lab is gonna hire some high school jr who knows basic physics and chemistry...unless they need a dish washer :p

You just have to learn to swallow your pride a bit~

You just have to learn to swallow your pride a bit~ It's generally really easy to get research experience at most schools during undergrad. No need to get your "foot in the door" before then.

I got an intern the summer before my junior year as a software engineer (programmer) intern at SIEMENS diagnostics through my dad. Connections are the way to go. impress them since they won't expect much from you and you got yourself secured the internship the year after too if you want.

collegeconfidential.com is a really good place to ask for all this type of stuff. There's a subform for summer internships check it out.

Do you have any connections? I got an intern the summer before my junior year as a software engineer (programmer) intern at SIEMENS diagnostics through my dad. Connections are the way to go. impress them since they won't expect much from you and you got yourself secured the internship the year after too if you want. This. I spent a long time looking for an internship in HS, and the best way to get one is to know people who are willing to give you a job. The odds you will be able to produce a particularly compelling resume are more or less zero.

I don't know if you're trying to disagree with me or what, but this is exactly what I'm saying. There's no shame in washing dishes for a research lab as an undergrad since it can often lead to finding an interest and possibly a grad school job later on down the line.
