Preview of our Top 8 Qualified Players for AGL August:
+ Show Spoiler +

7/8th - (Z)JimRiSiNg

Bracket: Bracket A
Team: Team Legion
Twitter: N/A
Stream: JimRiSiNg on Twitch.TV
Liquipedia: JimRiSiNg

WBR1: Bye
WBR2: JimRiSiNg 1-2 CatZ
LBR2: Bye
LBR3: JimRiSing 2-0 Chobittsu
LBR4: JimRiSiNg FFW Jsung
LBR5: JimRiSiNg FFW Anfield
LBR6: JimRiSiNg 2-0 Eifer
LBR7: JimRiSiNg 0-2 Suppy

By the Numbers:

Overall Score: 5W-4L (9 games at 55.6% winrate)
By Series: 2W-2L (4 matches at 50% winrate)
vs : (N/A)
vs : 2-0 (100%) | 4-0 (100%)
vs : 0-2 (0%) | 0-4 (0%)

Online tournaments are notorious for walkovers. Even with check-in periods occurring 30 to 60 minutes before the event there are always players who don't show up for personal reasons or more enticing events to participate in (such as the GSTL). Connection problems, lag, and scheduling across three continents further compound the issue. It would be hard to argue that JimRiSiNg's run through AGL-June was nothing short of lucky, collecting two byes and two forfeit wins over two very formidable opponents. This however, raises the question, just how will JimRiSiNg fair in AGL-August? He's recieved a decent seed and has been playing exceptionally well in the WCS so we can certainly expect some sparks from this Mexican Zerg. Will it be enough?

7/8th - (Z)giX

Bracket: Bracket B
Team:N/A
Twitter: @giXsc2
Stream: giX on Twitch.TV
Liquipedia: giX

WBR1: Bye
WBR2: giX 2-0 Zabro
WBR3: giX 2-1 Hyun
WBR4: giX 1-2 IceCream
LBR6: giX 2-0 Magic
LBR7: giX 0-2 SeoHyeon

By the Numbers:

Overall Score: 7W-5L (12 games at 58.3% winrate)
By Series: 3W-2L (5 matches at 60% winrate)
vs : 1-2 (33.3%) | 3-4 (42.9%)
vs : (N/A)
vs : 2-0 (100%) | 4-1 (80%)

If there ever was a darkhorse waiting amongst the top 8 from AGL-June, it would be giX. Taking out one of the best Korean Zergs on the scene, TSL. HyuN, is no easy feat and should be commended. Falling to the losers bracket curtousy of eventual tournament winner IceCream is no trifle either. Despite having a first round bye, giX had a rather difficult run through the winners bracket having to face two Koreans back to back and then falling to 4th place finisher, SeoHyeon, yet another Korean. As with the rest of the top 8, giX is separated in his own 8-player bracket so giX wouldn't meet any of his vanquishers until at least WBR4. Although the potential for a rematch against TSL.HyuN has the possibility of occurring in WBR3!

5/6th - (P)PuCK

Bracket: Bracket B
Team: ROOT.Gaming
Twitter: @ROOTpuCK
Stream: puCK on Twitch.TV
Liquipedia: puCK

WBR1: puCK 2-1 qxc
WBR2: puCK 2-1 EroSennin
WBR3: puCK 2-0 Magic
WBR4: puCK 2-1 SeoHyeon
WBR5: puCK 0-2 T:Ice Cream
LBR8: puCK 1-2 Suppy

By the Numbers:

Overall Score: 9W-7L (16 games at 56.2% winrate)
By Series: 4W-2L (6 matches at 66.7% winrate)
vs : 2-1 (66.67%) | 4-4 (50%)
vs : 1-0 (100%) | 2-1 (66.7%)
vs : 1-1 (50%) | 3-2 (60%)

Normally, players like puCK would expect an easy round or two before having to play against their equals. But, as every player who has played a tournament knows, at any moment a bracket can turn against you and pair you against the most insane gauntlet of players possible. In the first round puCK went toe-to-toe with the multitasking bandana-Terran, qxc. In an intense series puCK came out on top and proceeded to defeat Erosennin,Magic, and LighT eSports newest pick-up and 4th place finisher, SeoHyeon before falling into the lower bracket to IceCream. Suppy would be the player to knock puCK out of the tournament but not without puCK playing one of the best series of the tournaments. While other players cruised through the bracket, puCK wasn’t given a single easy match. With his skills and the tenacity he showed, puCK may just have what it takes to place well again in AGL-August.

5/6th - (T)KawaiiRice

Bracket: Bracket A
Team: LighT eSports
Twitter: @KawaiiRiceLighT
Stream:KawaiiRice on Twitch.TV
Liquipedia:KawaiiRice

WBR1: Bye
WBR2: KawaiiRice 2-1 Daisy
WBR3: KawaiiRice FFW Caliber
WBR4: KawaiiRice 2-1 Suppy
WBR5: KawaiiRice 0-2 CatZ
LBR8: KawaiiRice 0-2 SeoHyeon

By the Numbers:

Overall Score: 4W-6L (10 games at 40% winrate)
By Series: 2W-2L (4 matches at 60% winrate)
vs : 0-1 (0%) | 0-2 (0%)
vs : 1-0 (100%) | 2-1 (66.7%)
vs : 1-1 (50%) | 2-3 (40%)

After KawaiiRice left Fnatic, he partnered up with his former manager, Xeris, to recreate the powerful Brood War presence of LighT eSports, except this time in StarCraft II. Well known in his early days of Wings of Liberty for his Supply Depot push-ups, KawaiiRice has been consitent presence on the professional circuit making appearances in MLG, IPL, HomeStory Cup, and being a huge ACE for his CSL team. AGL-June had a rough start for Kawaii as well, having to play ESC.Daisy in the very first round followed by a walkover on Caliber.LighT, Suppy, Catz, and SeoHyeon. Kawaii played the majority of his games against the top 8 of AGL-June. KawaiiRice has not taken any huge tournament wins under his belt, he is no stranger to the tournament scene and should always be feared because of his immense amount of experience. Kawaii's bracket doesn't have any particularly difficult opponents to face until WBR4 where he has the possibility of facing off against Sage or Suppy.

4th - (T)SeoHyeon

Bracket: Bracket B
Team: LighT eSports
Twitter: @SeoHyeonLighT
Stream: SeoHyeon on Twitch.TV
Liquipedia: SeoHyeon

WBR1: SeoHyeon 2-0 Imix
WBR2: SeoHyeon 2-0 Daisuki
WBR3: SeoHyeon 2-0 Boyo
WB4: SeoHyeon 1-2 puCK
LBR6: SeoHyeon 2-0 MaSsan
LBR7: SeoHyeon 2-0 giX
LBR8: SeoHyeon 2-0 KawaiiRice
LBR9: SeoHyeon 1-2 Suppy

By the Numbers:

Overall Score: 12W-4L (16 games at 75% winrate)
By Series: 6W-2L (8 matches at 75% winrate)
vs : 2-0 (100%) | 4-0 (100%)
vs : 1-1 (50%) | 3-2 (60%)
vs : 3-1 (75%) | 5-2 (71.4%)

SeoHyeon is one of the most familiar faces amongst the crew at ALT StarCraft. Playing in the very first AGL as well as diving deep in Playhem tournaments, SeoHyeon is an online warrior. He practically defines it as he placed high in three other AGL events and has placed well in several other online tournaments. SeoHyeon originally became one of the most consistent players for vVv before making a short stop at CheckSix and then eventually winding up alongside KawaiiRice on LighT eSports. Boasting one of the highest win rates by games (75%) of AGL-June, it is only a matter of time before SeoHyeon starts making huge splashes on major pro circuit events as he possesses raw Terran talent and we're happy to offer up the AGL as that starting platform.

3rd - (Z)Suppy

Bracket: Bracket A
Team: Evil Genuises
Twitter: @EGSuppy
Stream: Suppy on Twitch.TV
Liquipedia: Suppy

WBR1: Bye
WBR2: Suppy 2-1 Nezi
WBR3: Suppy 2-1 Jsung
WBR4: Suppy 1-2 KawaiiRice
LBR6: Suppy 2-0 Destiny
LBR7: Suppy 2-0 JimRiSiNg
LBR8: Suppy2-1 puCK
LBSF: Suppy 2-1 Seohyeon
LBF: Suppy 0-2 Ice Cream

By the Numbers:

Overall Score: 13W-8L (21 games at 61.9% winrate)
By Series: 6W-2L (8 matches at 75% winrate)
vs : 1-2 (33.3%) | 3-5 (37.5%)
vs : 1-0 (100%) | 2-1 (66.7%)
vs : 4-0 (100%) | 8-2 (80%)

If this tournament was played two months earlier, few would know who Suppy is. The MLG Spring Championship in Anaheim changed all that. Suppy qualified for WCS North America and was the top placing American player in MLG. Named the MLG Break Out Player of the Spring Championship, Suppy has caught the attention of the competitive StarCraft II scene with fierce eyes. Evil Geniuses' newest pick-up and possibly the man to dethrone IdrA as EG's best Zerg player, Suppy is a long standing community member doing write-ups for ESEA amongst other acitivities. Suppy also played the most games out of the top 8 from AGL-June. Suppy tore through a grueling 21 games and had a win rate of 61.9%. Suppy fell early on to KawaiiRice but would fight his way through ROOT.Destiny, JimRiSiNg, puCK, and SeoHyeon in the Losers Bracket. Easily the most difficult run of any of the top 8 players. With a lot of momentum already behind him, AGL-August may just be Suppy's tournament.

2nd - (Z)CatZ

Bracket: Bracket B
Team: ROOT.Gaming
Twitter: @ROOTCatZ
Stream: CatZ on Twitch.TV
Liquipedia: CatZ

WBR1: CatZ 2-0 Bonk
WBR2: CatZ 2-0 JimRiSiNg
WBR3: CatZ 2-1 Inori
WBR4: CatZ 2-1 Eifer
WBR5: CatZ 2-0 KawaiiRice
WBF: CatZ 2-1 Ice Cream
GF: Catz 2-3 Ice Cream
GFES: CatZ 1-3 Ice Cream
By the Numbers:

Overall Score: 15W-9L (24 games at 62.5% winrate)
By Series: 6W-2L (8 matches at 75% winrate)
vs : 2-2 (50%) | 7-7 (50%)
vs : 3-0 (100%) | 6-2 (75%)
vs : 1-0 (100%) | 2-0 (100%)

Some players make their living by gluing themselves to the meta-game. They gain their success through superior execution and consistency. The singer, team owner, comedian, and professional player known as CatZ, on the other hand, thrives on something far more intriguing. Famous for his eccentric playstyle, including the use of Nydus Worms, in base hatches, and off-kilter timing attacks, CatZ stands a robust opponent who is not to be taken lightly. That’s not to say CatZ cannot play standard: his macro is nothing to laugh at. CatZ tore through this tournament, defeating TSL.Inori as well as Ice Cream in the winner’s bracket finals and coming within a game of winning the event. If there is any player in this tournament with an insaitable bloodlust for victory, it would be CatZ.

1st - (T)IceCream

Bracket: Bracket A
Team: It's GoSu eSports
Twitter: @GoSuIceCream
Stream: IceCream on Twitch.TV
Liquipedia: IceCream

WBR1: Ice Cream 2-0 Imyt
WBR2: Ice Cream 2-1 Intense
WBR3: ce Cream 2-1 Koma
WBR4: Ice Cream 2-1 giX
WBR5: Ice Cream 2-1 puCK
WBR6: Ice Cream 1-2 CatZ
LBF: Ice Cream 2-0 Suppy
GF: Ice Cream 3-2 CatZ
GFES: Ice Cream 3-1 CatZ

By the Numbers:

Overall Score: 19W-9L (28 games at 67.9% winrate)
By Series: 8W-1L (9 matches at 88.9% winrate)
vs : 2-0 (100%) | 4-2 (66.7%)
vs : 2-0 (100%) | 4-1 (80%)
vs : 4-1 (80%) | 11-6 (64.7%)

Coming from the famous oGs team under the identity of Illusion, IceCream had the chance to practice with players like MC, Nada and Supernova. Now playing for the North American team It's GoSu eSports, IceCream finally has the ability to really stretch wings and show what is he capable of. Compared to the rest of the top 8 is also one of the few players in the tournament that didn't have the privlege of recieving a bye or walkover. Although he fell to CatZ in the winner’s bracket finals he would have his revenge and take out CatZ in two best of 5 series for a total of nine spectular games.

A special thanks from the staff of ALT StarCraft:
+ Show Spoiler +

We at ALT Starcraft would like to thank all of those who have made this event possible. First and foremost, Cyber Sports Network for being our loyal partners and a wealth of great support in furthering our organization. Secondly, it is because of the great players and leaders of the North American StarCraft II scene that make this a competitive and special event in the North American online circuit. With that being said we would like to personally thank both the players and managers of It's GoSu, ROOT Gaming, LighT eSports, CompLexity Gaming, Quantic Gaming, and Evil Geniuses for their on-going support and participation in our events.

We believe creating a environment where players from all across the world can come to compete against the best of the region is a very healthy and important step for developing the talent of North America. We take pride in being able to support both the up and coming players of the NA scene along with the established professionals who represent us internationally.

A special thanks as well to Team Liquid for allowing our qualifiers to be listed to help further growth of ALT StarCraft as well as the up and coming players of StarCraft II. We would also like to thank the wonderful people who participated in our feedback survery after our last event and for their fantastic input. Because of these individuals we are going to be implementing new changes to our AGL events and they are as follows:

1. The prize pool remains spread of the top 4 players but will be divided as such. Top 8 players are still invited back to the next AGL.

1st. $300
2nd. $100
3rd. $60
4th. $40

2. The brackets will be divided into two separate 32-player double elimination brackets with the winners of each bracket playing each other in a Best of 7 grand final. This is to avoid extended series as well as to increase the excitement of the final match.

3. We will be using two streams, one stream for each bracket. Stream A (casters Knack and windy) will follow Bracket A and be overseen by Admin A, ALT caster Robert "AEGIS" Sullivan. Stream B (casters Zoia and TBA) will follow Bracket B and be overseen by Admin B, Team ALT Manager Steven "Freedom" Rush.

Schedule:

Here the first round matches that will be casted on each stream. All matches begin at 7pm EST on August 31st. Matches be played up until the round of 6 in each bracket at which point matches will continue on September 1st at 7pm EST.

Awesome preview! I really liked the way you broke down the top 8 from the last AGL Invitational. It is always really cool to see different stats like that! Can't wait to see how this event goes :D

if you want up and coming players maybe you should actually invite up and coming players instead of one that have already come up

I believe that there were open qualifiers to this, something like 12 or 16 spots. That is pretty good for up and coming players. I don't really see the point in inviting non well-known players into a tournament like this. The invites serve to increase the level of play and make sure that the tournament is worth watching from a competitive standpoint, while the qualifiers give up and coming players the chance to compete.
Either way, good write-ups and great players. Will definitively try to tune in.

edit- looked up the actual number of qualifier spots. There was 24 qualifier spots, the 8 players from the last tournament, and the rest are invites.

I think the only problem with these tourneys is the casting, but who am I to say it's bad right? Also, the team side of Alt is looking strong. Seen them beating good people at Raleigh. ( Bails is a beast )

Hence why we're bringing on Zoia and another TBA.
