After their recent fiascoes it appears MBC has decided to reevaluate some of the dunderheaded changes it has made over the last year, starting with the changes it made to the qualifying system for the Survivor Tournament. Starting next season the following changes will be made:
  • The Survivor Tournament Preliminaries will consist of 24 groups again (not 20).
  • Places 9 through 32 from the previous MSL are again seeded into the Survivor Tournament (not 9 through 24).
  • The #1 KeSPA-ranked player from each team that is not already seeded into the next MSL or Survivor Tournament no longer gets an automatic seed into the Survivor Tournament.
It does not look like the other changes that were made last year will be reversed at the moment though. Split-up group play, Bo5's and Ro8 match-ups being decided by KeSPA rankings will stay for now.

I like kespa ranking deciding seeding, it means we get chances at matchups like Flash Jaedong more frequently.

Please fix splitting up best of series though, this is absolute worst part of OSL and now we have to deal with it in the tournament that is doing its best to be "OSL's special little brother".

the msl did this so that they can get a much epic final but you know how that turn out =/ i think the msl should be different from the osl but find a better way to do it

IMO, the only thing that can save the MSL from ruin (apart from a good power source & heater?) is another epic finals... Flash vs Jaedong, anyone? Those MSL staff must be praying to the gods that Jaedong survives this "slump" and can finally fight the Monster again...

Otherwise I can't see the MSL ever getting back its reputation (not that it ever could compare to the OSL...)
The probability of Kim Carrier getting all those predictions wrong is similar to the probability Flash loses a TvT. Kim Carrier MUST BE a genius. His only big mistake... STORK.

Totally agree with both points heyoka. Although it's unpopular, I think it makes eminent sense to let kespa ranking decide seeds. It's the same in any other sport. People would go ballistic if the number 1 tennis player knocked out the number 2 or 3 in the first round of a tournament. It'd be really stupid. I think the same applies to Starcraft. It's too random potentially letting the top 4 run into each other before the semis.

edit: And before anyone says they're only doing it for ratings in the hope of getting a Flash v Jaedong finals - I don't care what their reasoning is. The unintended benefit for viewers and players is that the best do meet up in the later stages of a tournament. As it should be! The best should be in the finals or if you're a dark-horse you should have to beat your way through the best. This also stops players who don't legitimately belong getting hyped beyond all proportion because they get a silver in an OSL, MSL.

You're all just fortunate that the moment the KeSPA rank is surprisingly accurate. However, if Bisu makes the Ro8 the chances are he's going to be paired up with a big name since his KeSPA rank is so low etc. Likewise, we'll never get to see how good stats really is because he got crushed by Jaedong in the first round of the Ro8 - this isn't a system which helps the rookie. Hell, if we had this system during UZOO MSL Savior probably would have been paired with Chojja and he would have been eliminated =/

Yeah the MSL actually doesn't need that KeSPA rank based system since its Ro8s are already Bo5s so upsets are less likely to happen anyway.

OSL Ro8 needs Bo5s or KeSPA rank based system.

And no more split BoXs.

Maybe if Bisu would be worth it's name atm this wouldn't happen.

Seeding is good. Imagine Tennis if you would have Federer/Nadal/Djoko and so on in one half of the bracket and tons of nonames in the other half... Thats what happens if you don't seed.

Except that there are other tournies for tennis, but only proleague for Kespa seeds. It would make it much harder for new players like Stats to move up the ranks.

Harder?

In Tennis you have to get far in (good rated) Tourneys to get a good seed.
In SC/BW you have to do good in Proleauge to get a good seed.

Care to explain why exactly this is harder?

as said before in the previous thread, split bo5 gets a lot of unwarranted hate. and it's only in the ro16, OSL has split bo3's in the ro8. So what do you want, split bo5 with more games or split bo3 where stupid upsets happen?

On the other hand, I for one really dislike the #1 kespa rank seeding. it's really unfair because you get players like ace/estro who probably don't even deserve to be in the leagues otherwise. i know there is more "star power" but in a league, the better players should advance. and I agree with Plexa

i don't mind a bit of seeding (eg top 16 get seeds) but MSL has too much of it imo. if you want to go far in a league, you have to earn your spot on-the-go, not by riding on the backs of your previous success(es)
8/4/12 never forget, never forgive.

i don't like it. it's unnecessary hard for a S-class player to go through prelims. like savior and osl or bisu and osl.
Bisu... ;-(

Wasn't the seeding system responsible for the Flash vs Jaedong finals last time.

I know that finals ended in tears, but if computers keep working, it does give a higher chance of a final involving the best players.

If they are S-class it shouldn't be hard for them though?
