Sooo glad I am keeping Window XP as my bootcamp. It's really terrible how Brood War seem to be being phased out, but I am sure people will find a way.

Lion is bad anyway. I much prefer my Snow Leopard installation.

Indeed, I bought Crossover on sale for like $15, I don't know if I would buy it for the full price. It is quite good though. The recent update seems to run steam more stable along with the games I've installed.

If you don't mind getting your hands dirty, there definitely are free options that do just as good. I use Crossfire because it works basically the same on Mac and Linux, so I don't have to learn separate systems, and it is easy to use.

I've noticed that as well, along with most other 2d games being choppy too. 3D games are fine though. I've been working on it but haven't got anything yet.

Sorry about taking so long to answer "konadora" and "Entaro[AoV]".

What Ben told is true. Basically WINE is an engine to run Windows code (including applications, like Office) on Unix machines (yeas, MacOS is Unix. In fact BSD).

There is some payed versions, like Crossover, and some free, like Wineskin.

The idea behind it is that it creates a "folder" for you that "emulates" the "C:" Windows drive. So, let me try to explain step by step for the Wineskin:

1) Download Wineskin Winery (the latest, in my case 1.3), with the latest Wineskin Wrapper (in my case 2.5.2) but get the Engine WS8Wine1.1.35 (yeas, not the latest which is 1.3.30 and not the DirectX or OpenGL ones, the CX and CXG ones. I've tested and for Starcraft the latest breaks or becomes choppy);

2) Click at "create new blank wrapper". The idea is that the Wineskin will create a folder inside:
"/Users/{username}/Applications/Wineskin/{wrapper name}"
Example (my case):
"/Users/bsas/Applications/Wineskin/StarCraft"

3) When you create a new wrapper, and runs it first time, you click "install new software", it asks for a EXE file to execute. So, point to the StarCraft installation file. I have the digital copy, which is the "StarCraft 1.15.2 enUS Installer / Installer.exe".

4) It will run the installation. After that, it will ask for a standard EXE file. What Wineskin will do is, every time you "double click" the wrapper again, it will run that executable. In my case I've pointed to:
"/Program Files/StarCraft/StarCraft.exe"

5) Basically, you can now double click on the wrapper now.

P.S.: (Advanced)

To "see" the Starcraft folder, go "inside" the wrapper. Option+Click, "Show Package Contents" and you will see the wrapper configuration and the folder. In my case, I can see the folder at:
"/Users/bsas/Applications/Wineskin/StarCraft/drive_c/Program Files/StarCraft"

P.S.(2): Probably that works with Diablo 2. I didn't tested.

P.S.(3): It is a good practice to create a "new wrapper" for each application, so you can "try" the best "engine". For example, the best one for Starcraft is "WS8Wine1.1.35" but "WS8WineCXG10.1.1" can work better for Diablo 2 (I don't know, I am just giving an example :D).

P.S.(4): Sorry, my first post I've told 1.3.19, but I've tested and the 1.1.35 is far better and faster. The best way to check the compatibility engine is at "http://appdb.winehq.org/".

I hope that helps.

OSX 10.7 is hurting BW/E-sports.

Hopefully someone figures out how to make BW work on OSX 10.7. I'm grateful that BW still works with Windows 7 (despite the weird ass colour glitches), so hopefully that stays true with Macs. Sucks for Mac users right now I guess.

i got the iccup launcher to run, but i can't use it to play on iccup ( i get some weird error, i can't screenshot with my MBP while playing SC )

for the wine, if i direct it to StarCraft.exe, it runs. however, it's still slightly choppy. sometimes the game is slow, sometimes the game speeds up beyond fastest speed lol.

i'm trying to download SC via the blizzard website, but instead i get the torrent software (blizzard downloader) and it asks me to suggest the directory where i want SC to be installed. however, every single directory i point to says it is invalid -_-

i tried to install it via the CD but it says it's an ancient app so it can't be run lol

You can disable it. Check out the tech support forum. I can play BW and SC2 just as good (more like just as terrible) on both my desktop and my Mac, though I don't have Iccup on my Mac.

For the average person, even setting up a Virtual Box (free program that can run virtual desktops) with XP would be easier, and you wouldn't even have to allot much in terms of system power to run it if you are just running BW and old games like that. I used to have one just for AoE2, and other old games like that but I would prefer WINE if possible so I'll have to work on it. WINE is a lot more work but when you can get it to work, it runs just as good as Windows. I have Windows Steam and a lot of Windows games on my Mac through that and almost all of them work perfectly.
