FINAL RESULTS
We have a clear winner!
1st: notrangerjoe - 27 points

The winning bracket:

2nd/runner up: Armathai - 23 points
there was a 3 way tie for 3rd in points at 22 points, including me in there , but by looking individually at each bracket, we can tell that
3rd/runner up: Skruf because this user did predict Sen would take 3rd, not to mention he posted before the other dude.

I have a quick interview with the number 1 bracket picker.. notrangerjoe!

Q: First off, big congratulations all around for decisively beating 281 other people for the top prize! There are no ties for first place! Would you mind telling all of us reading a bit about yourself? Have you been following along with the contest or is this win news to you?

A:Thanks and hi TL . I've been following professional StarCraft for two years and I've been a super-low-post-count TL member for just over a year (slowly improving my Liquibet skills). I was following my score until JF's win in Ro8, after that I figured he'd make it to the finals and my score would be screwed. Looking at it now I'm really surprised at how accurate my bracket was.

Q: When you were placing your predictions at the time, did you have a clear strategy or were you just guessing randomly?

A: My first instinct was that we were going to see mirrors everywhere, and there turned out to be more than I first predicted. Because I haven't followed foreign StarCraft that much I relied a lot on the Ret/Artosis predictions in their SCForAll video. Looking back the only real "random" thing I did was put XiaOxi over Idra.

Q: As you can probably guess- many, many, MANY, people placed IdrA to win it all (187 people to be precise). Why did you decide to go ahead and not pick the favorite? Was it because so many other people were picking him to win? Is he your favorite player?
-In my head, Idra was either going to take it all or lose to something stupid early on. I went with the latter, half because I knew it would be the less popular choice and half because of how crazy it would be if he so early Ret is actually my favorite player of the top 16, but I was (sadly) confident that his ZvZ wouldn't be able to take him to the finals.

Q: Just out of curiosity, are you as good as you in Liquibet as you are in TSL?

A:I don't recall how long I've been active in Liquibet, but think I have been in the top 100 or so each season I've been in.

Q: Your net worth just went up by about $95. Do you plan on celebrating this small, but notable, victory?

A: I actually just bought a new processor for $150 so I'm still down for the week. Hopefully when I go out for poker with friends in the next few days my luck will continue and I'll be able to break even overall :D

Thanks for playing and I wish you the best of luck in the future!
-Thank you, and thanks to TL and all the amazing staff for the TSL!

It's been fun TL.net.. thanks to all for participating.. see you at TSL3!

+ Show Spoiler [quick interview with Ro16 winner] +

Q: Thanks for doing this quick interview, why don’t you please take a second to give a quick introduction about yourself.

A: Hi, my name is Jin and I've been a long time visitor to Teamliquid.net. Given the time constraints of school and now work, I've never had much time to post here but TL is an awesome community and TSL is by far and away the premier foreign tournament. I'm a little bit surprised the interview wasn't left until the end of the bracket, but I might as well enjoy the few moments of glory I do have :D

Q: You were the only person perfectly selecting the Ro16 outcomes out of 282 people, did you have a good idea of who to pick or was it just a guessing game?

A: I think with any bracket contest, the eventual winner utilizes some combination of luck, intuition and knowledge. There were some match-ups I was quite certain about, and others were a blind guess. For example, the main reason I picked Fenix over Koll was to differentiate my results from the majority, so I have been definitely been very lucky thus far. By probability, I will likely lose my standing by next week

Q: Looking ahead, do you think your predictions will hold up for the Ro8 and Ro4?

A: I hope so! The JF vs Ra matchup was the most difficult to predict (I picked JF). I believe the process of regaining your mechanics isn't as difficult as some make it out to be, especially given the fact top tier players still play for recreation when they aren't competing. Plus JF is a beast in money games

Q:You picked IdrA and Mondi to play against each other in the finals, with IdrA winning it all in the end. After the games today, are you still happy with this prediction or would you wish your finals prediction had been different?

A: Idra deserves to win the tournament as he is the most talented. I believe Mondragon will beat Fenix and Ret will beat Sen. However, the ZvZ between Mondi/Ret was a hard choice. I choose Mondragon, because he has always been a consistent ZvZ player and his experience in the matchup will give him a slight advantage over Ret. Very tough call though! Overall, I'm happy with my predictions and I hope they come true!

Random stats:
282 Entries
21 people with 7 points
94 people with 6 points
(if Jin messes up some there are a ton of people to take his spot)
13 people out of 282 thought Fenix would beat Kolll

Just so people see the updated prizes:
1st. $70 + $25 iTunes gift card
2 runners up: $25 + $20 iTunes gift cards
Thanks to TL for donating $50 to the first player and Alphine for donating a generous $70 to this contest.

Also, just a technical note but since so many people have entered, our generous donor Alphine has come up with a way to spread out the results a bit:

Winner of the 8 RO16 games = 1 pt each for 8 total
Winner of the 4 RO8 games = 2 pts each for 8 total
Winner of the 2 RO4 games = 4 pts each for 8 total
Winner of Grand Final = 8 pts

Total = 32 pts

In the event of ties, I'll examine your 1-4 picks, and whoever is closest will win.

So if say, 2 people get 28 points. Whoever had the closest order of 1-4 will win, the other will be 2nd place.

Hope that makes the spread bigger.

+ Show Spoiler [original post] +
Hey all, I didn't see anything similar after a quick search, so I'd figure I'd post it here.

I want to propose a unofficial PokerStrategy.com TSL bracket contest similar to the NCAA March Madness brackets. If the TL gods are against this, then by all means delete this topic.
Mod Edit: This is now the official TSL bracket contest!

Prizes: Updated
It isn't much, but I have 3 unused iTunes gift cards: one at $25, and 2 at $15. Whoever comes the closets to the actual results (i.e. who predicts the most amount of wins) will take the $25, with the second/third place taking the $15. If there is a tie for any of the places, whoever posted their bracket first will take the higher amount. TeamLiquid is also going to send $50 to the winner via paypal!! Alpine has been so kind as to give us a $70 donation to help this contest! Here are the updated prizes:

1st. $70 + $25 iTunes gift card
2 runners up: $25 + $20 iTunes gift cards

Outline:
The contest is straightforward. Simply take a blank TSL2 Round of 16 bracket and fill it out using Photoshop/Paint/what have you with who you think will win each match, starting at the Round of 16 and continuing, filling up the whole tournament. There will be one point given for each correct guess. For example, if JF and Kabal advance, and you picked both of them to play each other, you get 2 points. There are 16 matchup guesses + 4 points for correctly guessing the 1st-4th players for a total of 20 points.

Here is the bracket provided by TeamLiquid:

Also, since the bracket doesn't provide it, you must also write in your post who you think will win first, second, and third

Here is my entry (not counted since I am giving out the cards)
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

First: NonY
Second: BRAT_OK
Third: Ret

(I realize it is silly to not think IdrA wont win it all, I would just be in awe if I got to see a Bo7 my two favorite foreigners battle it out for top prize.)

Rules:
The only rules I can think of are (subject to change):
  • All brackets must be posted before January 25th, midnight TL time 29th, 18:00 KST
  • Your bracket post must not be edited after the Ro16 starts
  • One bracket per person

Thats about it, please post if you have any questions/conerns/brackets

Be careful about allowing brackets to be linked from a personal site, I can see someone waiting till it starts then going back and changing the picture that their post links to.

While you're top3 may be respectable, I still need a bracket to go with it

Best way to avoid problems, imo, is to have people send you a link before it starts and download the images as they come in and keep them on your comp and reference them from there. Make the filename the username would be my best advice, and have a folder dedicated to this.

I would just force them to use imageshack/imgur or something similar.

If you're really serious about this, it's probably easiest organizationally to just dl brackets as they're coming in and rename them to people's usernames as was suggested.
