Don't post in this thread to say "gay gamers are like everyone else, why do they have a special thread?" It is something that has been posted numerous times, and this isn't the place for that discussion. For regular posters, don't quote the trolls.

I'm guessing it's offensive in the same way black players are when they see "nigger" etc. Dont take it seriously though, when people use these insults they dont rly mean it. It's like when you call someone retarded, you dont rly think hes retarded, nor do you want to offend all the truely retarded people :/

Though its ridiculously over used in video games and an unoriginal insult. I use it more in the sense "that build is really gay" - not you are gay (because of course I wouldn't consider being gay bad at all). More of a force of habit really. Also, Diamond Protoss now. =]

I feel the same way, but gay people should not be the ones limited to that. Girls do that all the time, so if it is not okay for gays to flaunt it, is it bad for girls to show off the asses at any event? EDIT - I have never been to a pride parade, but I heard that most of the people are...pretty normal for the most part. The media just reports what seems most interesting.

This statement bothers me, I'm not going to comment on the idea of pride parades (since I really can't argue for or against them), but the first part of your statement "I'm cool with gay dudes as long as they don't flaunt it" is what bothers me. I'm gonna assume good faith and take it that you take offense to gay people behaving publicly indecent, eg a streaker, which really isn't controversial at all. The other interpretation is that you have a problem with gay guys and girls kissing public, which would be controversial.

But being flamboyant does not seem all that bad...it seems to be what they say. Gok Wan is one of my favorite gay icon and flamboyant but he is not annoying.

Anywho, I personally don't enjoy the company of flamboyant people- gay or straight. I just find that type of personality obnoxious. Unfortunately, pretty much all of the LGBT community that I've met have been flamboyant, etc. This has kinda caused me to feel out of place wherever I go. In the straight community, I'm the gay one- and even if I can connect on a level of personalities and attitude, I will always feel a bit out of place during those conversations about girls and whatnot. And in the LGBT I feel like I can never connect on a level of personalities, which kinda impedes any progress I make when trying to find similarities in our experiences as LGBT youth. I've heard from most older people that this changes after high school, and I can only hope that it does. As for Pride Parades and all that kind of stuff, it's not my thing. The Gay community seems intent on being different. Like our idea of assimilating into the rest of culture should be to set ourselves aside and say "HEY LOOK AT HOW WEIRD WE ARE WE'RE SO WEIRD BUT IF YOU HATE IT THEN YOU'RE A TERRIBLE PERSON!" That's kinda fucked up, because I think we should be showing the world that we can just be as normal, but stuff like pride parades just sends a message that reinforces stereotypes, and just keeps us isolated. And to go over what I think about words like "gay" and "queer," I think it's all about context. I tend to throw around the words faggot and gay pretty often just as general slang. I don't get bothered by those words per se, but actual insults towards homosexuals will set me off. And if they're personal attacks, then I have ZERO patience for it. I will not hesitate to start a fight in an instant if someone is purposely calling me a faggot, and knows that I'm gay, etc. I've just been through too much for someone to belittle me about that specifically.

I'm not even entirely sure if I have any gay mannerisms. My close friends have never brought anything like that up. Though I have been asked (even told) I'm gay before, the supposed reason is my disinterest in girls is quite apparent, but the only people that brought this up where friends of friends (girls predominately but there has been one or two guys to take note).

I'm a straight man who has supported many of my friends by going to the annual gay pride parade. You do realize that gay people wear the same clothes as you and may even bump shoulders with you in the hall right? These parades are a chance for people to express themselves in any way they want, whether thats wearing assless chaps or just waving a flag. who honestly cares? people should be allowed to celebrate parts of who they are from time to time. Its like people from this forum going to MLG or Blizzcon. Some people would mock us, but what is so wrong about it?
