Oh god, the horror.

One result will be a life-affirming ode to dedication and perseverance being rewarded, the other will crush my soul.

Creator was one of the best players in the world in 2012 (generally being spoken of in the same breath as Maru and he-who-must-not-be-named) but sadly did not get the explosive success the others did soon after

For entirely different reasons I think Creator’s in the same boat as $o$, Legacy doesn’t suit their strengths as much.

For sOs the longer early/midgame phase gave him more room to do for crazy shenanigans, and Legacy’s sheer speed and execution requirements made it tough for Creator, whose strengths to me where in smart builds, tactics and management rather than crazy execution, and I think the pace of the previous 2 games suited him better.

Creator’s mentality has also not been the best over the years which is a factor, but Legacy did change the game a whole lot too

ehh he's technically right

better to just edit it than include my much-repeated rant about how GSL championship counting is so arbitrary in parenthesis

Indeed, only Maru is worthy of G5L and GOAT titles

It's GSL, not a foreign tournament

Win or lose, I hope that Creator can put up a decent fight. I worry that a crushing 0:4 or 1:4 will result in his past issues with mentality coming back and messing up future tournaments for him.

Awesome writeup!!
I'm so hyped to enjoy this. I love both players. I'm down to see anything, I just hope Creator won't beat himself up over this if he loses or if it's close.

Rogue winning would be hype and get him close to G5L and cementing himself more as the #2 GOAT ahead of Inno, and closer to challenging Maru at #1.

Creator winning would be amazing of course.

I think Creator has some things going for him. His matches vs Rogue didn't actually look that bad. It could have been 2-2 if he didn't lose to those Mutas and went ahead with his push. Also, this time he has a full week to prepare just for Rogue. And I bet every Zerg and Protoss player is going to be rooting for and trying to help Creator beat Rogue. Just like how everyone helped him win vs Trap and that seemed to affect Trap's quality of practice and performance.

And he has more confidence now that he beat Trap. In the game he lost to the mutas, perhaps his push would have worked if he didn't turn around and hesitate (?). It could have been his win instead of a loss.

I'm predicting a close 4-3, probably for Rogue. But it would be amazing if Creator wins 4-3!!

Please let this be a great finals to remember! Love that there will be a stadium/audience, I hope a decent amount of people show for this.

I didn't yet get to see how Creator reached the finals as a Protoss player, but for this alone, he's a god. Here's hoping it's not a 4-0 smash

Obviously 4-0 Creator.

Blizzard Cup and GSL vs the World both definitely aren't equivalent to a regular GSL imo.

It depends if you're talking about "GSL tournaments" or "GSL Code S".

Often it means the latter, since Code S is the main tournament.

Another reason is because when it comes to world championship type events (GSL vs the World, etc.), like MMA's Blizzard Cup win, or MVP's World Championship, is because these are small special invitationals that cap off the season or year. He got into that invitational because he won or qualified for that based on his performance in that period of time. Not because he actually fought a lot of people to qualify for a tournament and then win a bracket of 32-64 players.

Also, in cases like MVP's World Championship, half the players were foreigners, and it was a really easy tournament because of that. The bracket was only 16 people compared to GSL's 64 at the time.
Players weren't even chosen strictly based off of points or performance; they were invited due to a number of factors, such as how much the fans wanted to see them play ("Allstars").

Winning an invitational like that doesn't have the same merit as a normal tournament where you fight and advance purely through your own skill (other than the few spots of players sometimes being directly seeded into it, but most of the tournament is purely). Code S has the most weight, then Super Tournament, then GSL vs the World type invitationals.

The exception for invitationals is say if it's an actual World Champsionship with proper seeding, qualifiers, etc., and a prize pool to back it up as being an actual "World Championship". If you get into one of these because it was actually part of a planned league and you win, then sure that is a lot of weight. Meanwhile, the one MVP won was a spontaneous event planned pretty last minute as a for fun thing where players get to see their favorite foreign all-stars fight korean all-stars.

GSL vs the World type events don't usually have a big prize pool, usually even less than a normal Code S, emphasizing it's more of a fun event and not too serious.

Yes! Creator with a point on the board! I'm so glad this is at least not a 4-0 sweep.

Exactly. Anyone who thinks GSL vs. The World is taken seriously at all is delusional. Honestly, even if a player has won GSL vs. The World, he isn't considered anything if he hasn't won a GSL or any Korean Starleague, let alone being too scared to participate in GSL. He knows he will most likely get demolished and embarrassed in the first rounds of qualifiers.

We really can't call someone a GOAT if they haven't even played in GSL. We all know that one GSL Code S wins is massively more prestigious and solidifies a players legitimacy than any Blizzcon or Katowice or WCS or whatever.
