Just because it's a positive attribute, doesn't mean it's not detrimental overall. In Japan, people think Koreans are good at sports and music. As a result, they are discriminated against in corporate recruiting. Pretty much mirrors what happens in America with African-Americans. I really wanted to disagree with you but the furthest I could go is that stereotyping by itself isn't racism. The discrimination issue, though, is sort of creeping up where people seem to dislike the player simply because he's Korean. A good question is if people would be complaining as much if it was someone like Macsed that was picked up? He's good, but AFAIK he puts out very little content and so people really don't know him. He isn't someone that we as a community feel familiar about and can cheer for. A lot of how a person becomes a fan of a player is if they can attribute similarities to them. This means people will cheer for players that play the same race, or come from the same country, or even just display qualities that the person admires (like winning, or being friendly, or creative, etc). So the problem is not really that the player is a Korean as much as that the player isn't necessarily someone who the fans can associate with as much as other players. After all, most people on TL can identify themselves as "foreigners". He can (and already does) have fans despite this, it's just that there will be less people than if he was, say, a top up-coming European player. | ||

When people say "Koreans own at SC2" they refer to the top players who's skill level is rarely matched by people outside of Korea. How is that racist? It is fact. Before you know it calling Manchester United the best football team will be considered "racist" because we're "stereotyping" the skill level of all the players on their team and their expected results. On the flip side, how come no one bothers to point out how "racist" it is to call America terrible at football? Oh yeah, because not everyone is an over-sensitive new generation baby who ignores facts and reality like we have here. While it is not racist since it doesn't deal with race, it is the same exact idea: People getting offended over generalizations and facts. There is nothing wrong with cheering for David, who they can identitfy with, over the Goliath. This is human nature. | ||
