Like, just because America has a good variety of hole-in-the-wall texmex places and a large number of popular fast food equivalents doesn't mean that the same things can spread elsewhere easily. I live in the city in Canada with the highest rate of immigration (approx 60% of current inhabitants are 1st gen immigrants, long history of immigration, etc), and we have an incredible diversity of food available. People travel from all over the lower mainland to come here for food. But we don't have any texmex stuff - that requires a 15 minute drive across the border. We have a few great hole-in-the-wall south american places (mostly salvadorean) but it's p.different stuff. edit: also I'm just here chillin with my once a year buddhist temple fall fair nisei hand crafted bento etc, lol @ Amercan sushi.

I don't honestly think it's a dead genre. WoW still pulls in a lot despite it declining numbers. Every expansion people come back just to see if Blizzard wows them in new ways. The user base for EVE online, Guild Wars 2, and FFXIV is pretty good/ grows from word of mouth. The genre still appeals to quite a lot of people.

It's also a genre that's a lot more accessible when you're in school/highschool/uni, a massive addictive time sink will always draw in people, just as surely as a lot of people will abandon the genre when they reach an age/place in life where they have more responsibilities/things they need/want to do. edit: haze picture for ketara + Show Spoiler + ![]()

London chinese food is meant to be especially good though. People I know who've been to china say the good chinese places in london make better food then most places in china, pretty much every style of food in the british empire competed with each other to become mainstay london dishes so the bad bit of foreign food never stood a chance, and they use MUCH better quality ingredients then most places in china do. Also england having completely terrible national cuisine outside of breakfast probably made it a lot easier for chinese and indian food to get established, compared to other euro countries which already had their own dishes for it to compete with :p

Like, they grow a lot of avocados in Thailand, but they just don't taste as good as California avocados. I can make guacamole with the exact same recipe as I use at home, and its just not as good. London is a typical exception to these rules, London you can get amazing food from anywhere. NYC is like that too. Also when we're you in Pakistan Eppa that sounds cool I want to hear about that. When I lived in India I wanted to go to Pakistan but I was under contract to not go there. Or Sri Lanka. Or Kashmir. It was lame.

Or Sri Lanka. Or Kashmir. It was lame. I think ingredient quality isn't very limiting. You can't cook Mexican food the Mexican way but there are plenty of work arounds that make it equally delicious but there is often a lack of will to pull it through, Cuisine that uses a lot of spices and stock based are easier but its fully possible to make even Italian and Mexican food pretty much anywhere as long as you skip some dishes. Might write about my trip to Pakistan tomorrow if I feel like it. On October 19 2015 11:08 killerdog wrote: London chinese food is meant to be especially good though. London chinese food is westernized and it shows a lot in the food, the general level is more equal and some places are easily as good for certain types of chinese food (contemporary especially) When I was in China there was some sub par food but there was these incredibly amazing places and I always think it's a shame that people are squeamish to try true local cuisine. I'm probably spoiled in terms of food diversity and quality, but London and NYC are supposedly joke-tier (I've only been to the latter personally)... unless only people from around Vancouver say this...? This is confusing for me. Food wise London is easily top 3 city in Europe when it comes to French, Chinese and Southern Asian.
