This is not the place to talk about LoL viewership.

This is also not a place to caster bash/balance whine/flame, etc.

Please don't argue about how many views LoL has, or which game is better, or we will be upset.
(added page 174)

Also, lay off Scarlett please. (added page 227)

Yeah, it's really sad that the players with the most dedication and skill are winning the big prize money. Oh wait.

The best thing to do for the foreign players themselves is to quit playing the game as a profession, andgo towards a more stable, better paying job, while maybe keep on playing as a hobby.

Well there is a difference between money makers and sportsmen. But ignorant idiots like you won't get it!

the thing is, if a foreigner reached the heights of a GSL final and was consistently competing with the koreans, he'd be making a lot of money right now, stephano was close to achieving this but didn't want to do the whole korean thing for very long - you can make a lot of money from sc2 even if you're a foreigner, but the gamble is huge because the culture in the west looks unfavorably at the lifestyle of competitive gaming

No, what's bad is that when a scene is based only on "who is the best", there is no real emotional involvment, because, well, you don't actually care who wins, so what's going to happen is that pepole who can't get the dopamine rush of having their favorite win will just drop off, they also happen to be a very large majority of the viewers (check out MLG's votes on "who's the favorite" between HuK and Heart, Huk got 93% of the votes without being a favorite in any way).
Less casual viewers - smaller tournemants, smaller prize pools, no more IPLs, no more MLGs and so on, less Koreans going abroad, and that won't fix the problem because by then...

The current "good foreigners" will do the intelligent thing and drop the game, and go to school, they are all pretty intelligent people, who could make a lot more money by having a "real" job, like a physician or so, I find it incredible when people tell foreigners to train more, why should they? so that they can, maybe, win an extra 5,000 a year?

lol why is that bad? Just because causal players cannot appreciate the much higher gaming standard from the korean players, it doesn't make the scene bad.
What they want is show matches, not a real competitive tournament where koreans are just better

Because the scene will die, duh, it isn't like BW where there's ton of korean viewers, without foreigners watching the current SC2 scene is unsustainable.

I agree, but many people don't seem to listen to this view for whatever reason. There's a huge cognitive dissonance here.

A sort of uncomfortable truth is that skill is not really a talent in demand for a game like Starcraft, personality is. There are thousands of Koreans on ladder lining up who have the skills, but there are not many who have both the skill and the personality. I can see LosirA streaming with 1000 or so viewers and Destiny with 6000, and it's pretty obvious who is truly more in demand in the scene and who people really care about - and it's not skilled players. But nobody will admit it.

but would you watch an IPL style tourney with a choice between watching destiny vs minigun or losira vs MMA?

What about Thorzain vs Bling?
Or Naniwa vs Stephano?

Yeah, i'll watch these.

he mentioned the state of streaming, citing both destiny and losira, what has thorzain et al got to with it? the question I was asking was would you watch (at their present skill level) destiny in a tourney over losira?

Just to extend what I was saying - I also believe I could probably see a myriad of GSL games at a roughly similar level to MMA vs Losira, by other skilled players who could execute similar strategies and builds. However, there will only ever be one Destiny vs Minigun, because they are unique individuals.. as that's the nature of personality.

Honestly,Idra and Whitera are only there in the pool play due to seeding because they won IPL before.
If you put them through the open bracket, I doubt they will fare well.

The only exception is Stephano. This may sound biased but he won UK qualifier so like the people above stated. He is legit.
Props to Huk though for almost making out of the open bracket.

did you even watch the White-Ra games?

Yeah i did thought he had those games Killing the third and losing your army attacking into a bunch of spine crawlers?
He gave Stephano the best scenario to come back.
Leaving your mothership in the open without support is pretty bad.
Whitera should know that mothership are a slow moving unit.
Whitera made very bad decisions in those games.

wouldn't it be easier for korean players to get a personality than foreigners get good? Destiny just needs to coach being funny etc to DRG/MKP etc and the problem would be solved

Stephano 4-0ed JYP in custom games like two or three weeks ago, so winning against him should not be a problem.

I don't know about Curious, though..

It's still kinda crazy that, out of the 20 last players, 17 are koreans oO

Koreans also have personalities but the MAIN PROBLEM is the language barrier.
However there are a few exceptions who can speak decent english or have personalities(DRG,MC,Genius)
And Koreans are more quiet and reserved people.

This tournament also proves that the average foreigner skill level is nowhere on par with the average koreans skill level.
Kind of sad but true.

IMO Idra and Whitera are there just because of the seeding when they won the previous IPLs.

Stephano is an exception since he won the IPL UK qualifiers.

Uhh...I would much rather have them be sort of reserved than 'coached' to be insufferable douchebags.

I dont know if Stephano is able to go too the champion-bracket - The games against White-Ra was'nt that great and a realy good Korean-Tos would have won the games.
Curious looks like a realy good ZvZ player, I dont know if he's able to beat him.

I think the champion bracket will be Korean only.

As long as the games a great i dont mind :-)

Exactly this. Their skills are more important than being a mediocre player who gains popularity through his personality.

I`m not really a fan of watching koreans playing. Yes, I find boring and it`s my opinion/style.

But I can`t wait to see Stephano playing. He really has a good shot to WIN the ENTIRE tournament. If he can beat Polt, why can`t he beat players like MMA (who struggles against Polt), Jjakki, Bomber, etc.?

I think the only players Stephano isn`t capable of beat is Nestea and probably, probably, MC (but Stephano`s ZXP got so much better since last HSC).

Tbh i don't get the whining here. Every Korean here is at least around Code A caliber quality several Code S quality . Then you look at the foreigners and only at best half of them represent the best of what the foreigners represent and those did fairly well.

This is by far the biggest contingent of quality Korean players ever at the foreign tournament. For foreigners its not quite and its shows. There are alot of peole who could knock off koreans and if a bigger number of them had been present my guess is it wouldn't look as bleak. If you beat a Korean in a close match there's going to be another one waiting, if you beat a great good foreigner chances are there's not.

Btw i'm very happy to see Byun doing so well . Looks like he's truely back maybe better then ever.
