This sort of thing can (and does) happen in other sports a lot. Say in (American) football, a team that has clinched the playoffs may sit their best players for extra rest or to avoid injury, even if their opponents are fighting for a spot.
I'm really glad they played that series, the biggest NASL disappointment has been the players that don't even show up for their games.

Okay, time to put my serious face on:
That was actually really bad. Not cause of the quality of games (they were awesome!), but because of the major problems that the NASL system has. Select threw away a game to benefit from the seeding, which is really bad, and should never take place. There should always be an incentive to win.
More importantly, MC got an unfair seeding advantage by getting a free win. Whoever played Select last would be guaranteed a win, whereas in all the other games of the season Select was playing the games to win. MC's free win puts him at advantage, seeding wise over lots of other players in the tournament.
Admittedly, it's not an actual problem, and I doubt that there will be major repercussions from this, but it does show the disaster that is NASL pool play format.
BUT! We got to BCs and Carriers. So I'm happy.
