All fanboyism aside, IdrA's cast (especially the last day when he was more comfortable and took more space for himself) was just on another level than what I've seen in any caster so far.

I was sitting there captivated by all the little details he picked up, the subtle changes, the tricks and plays with the metagame that the gamers were doing, that no other caster would have noticed. He was analyzing how the patch affected the guys play on the spot, and taking into account how Whiteras past style would affect his play with the patch.

The tiny hints of smugness when casting Crunchers game made the chat erupt in pleasure. I thought the chat was going to crash when IdrA said "unfortunately that is good for Cruncher" as he was preparing his proxy stargates. When White-ra was doing the winners interview, and more or less brutalized the English language with his Russian awesomeness, IdrA was struggling so hard to keep his pokerface, but 10.000 nerds in the chat were all yelling for IdrA to lose it on air. It was beautiful.

All in all, IdrA wasn't selling us anything. He wasn't pimping his shirt site, he wasn't promoting his website or his girlfriends competition. He wasn't there to bullshit anyone. He was just pouring out his knowledge about the game, raw and unedited.. and no other caster could compare.

well, as long as all fanboyism is aside... )))

From a professional stance, the NASL invited Cruncher to compete in their tournament, which makes him a guest in their "home." The way in which they treat Cruncher is a reflection on how they treat all their players in the tournament and future players to be. To have Idra openly ridicule him on the air, when the show is edited and not broadcasted live, is disrespectful to all players competing in the tournament. If we want eSports to grow and to be taken seriously, we need to be more professional. It is OK for players to have drama and interaction between one another, but it is not the job of a caster to talk down another players talent. If the NASL does want to be like American Idol and have a "blatantly honest, bad guy/villain type?" Idra is not the guy. A. he is involved in the tournament, b. his bias towards Cruncher stems from their history of playing together and goes outside the circle of Crunchers play. If we had an honest/open/ neutral caster making comments on a players horrible macro/micro/decisions, that would be one thing...
tl:dr: Casters shouldn't be players who have personal grudges against the player they are casting. And since the NASL is not LIVE, and prerecorded and edited, it is their fault for producing footage of a caster openly ridiculing a player they invited to the tournament.

you make a good point but remember that just like CrunCher is a guest so is Idra a GUEST-commentator. I would be over the line if one of the normal commentators did something like that but Idra, I feel, doesnt need to be that professional since he is only there for such a brief period.

Personally I also hope that we in this community (which most definitely includes NASL) stay honest at least as long as possible and try to actively avoid the pitfalls of overly produced, bland, pointless sportscasting that is so dominating in the mainstream sports. Would it not have felt REALLY weird and forced if Idra had just not commented at all upon CrunCher and his style of play? We know how he feels so it would be ridiculous for him to just "hold it in". What they could have done though was to defend CrunCher more. Since they did invite him they must obviously not share Idras take on him. InControl did that to some extent but it felt kind of... stiff.

Does anyone have a link to the whitera interview after he wins?

Idra just looks like a reptilian man.

Idra makes the same mistake when casting he often does when playing - he's calling it too early, playing the game out in his head way too far in advance.

So often I heard him say "ok this is it it's over for the zerg there's nothing he can do" only to be forced to backtrack/backpeddle a couple minutes later when the zerg had a great engagement here or exploited a mistake there.

In that sense, Gretorp is a better caster as he knows how to phrase these things properly, being tentative and careful, saying "he could be in trouble" or "he is behind now" instead of being so final in his judgement like Idra often was (and incontrol kinda went along with it, while he is more careful when casting with gretorp).

But that's an easy thing to remedy as Idra gets more experience with casting, so there's definitely a lot of potential there. It was already really entertaining to watch, Diggity and Idra and incontrol and gretorp - they all make for good combinations (sorry Khaldor, you fit better with European pros than NA casters :p ) .
