I can't really say that I like TB casting, I get that a lot of people who don't really know very much about the game really like him but the fact that he is so bad at the game is very obvious in his casting. If he made a real effort to learn about the game he would probably be a great caster because he does sound rather excited when he casts which is something that is not as easy as it seams.

Fairly sure that he posted something recently about geting some coaching time in with Team Dignitas when he has the time. Regardless i enjoy his personality and enthusiasm about the game.

Good job on IPL. Some suggestions:

-always use 2 casters
-dont let the results leak again (totally lost interest in it because of that)
-show the bracket longer, it was flashed too short
-do it live in a studio! (huge suggestion I know)
-ask Totalbiscuit to not speak -too- fast, it becomes unpleasant to listen to then, SC2 is a strategic game, not a horserace.

Man I can't even think of more than that. Gj!

First off Amazing job on the stream and sound it's almost flawless , unlike other ongoing #cough tournament.
Vod's are readily available at a dedicated website and is well arranged which is awesome.

The problem is the commentator , I was excited when i heard that HD and DJwheat will be casting the games. HD has been overshadowed by co-commentator husky(which I hate) but imo is one of the more likable caster out there (i cant say he has the best knowledge of the game or good dynamics like tastetosis so im gonna go with likable) and DJwheat is perhaps one of the most professional caster in the starcraft 2 scene atm (his casting along with day9 was great)

Instead I got single commentator with pseudo-sport commentator voice that has little to no knowledge(exaggeration) of the game. He is enthusiastic(though I feel that he is faking it sometimes) at least but the commentating was not well paced .
I was not my intention to bash him but its just disappointing when you thought it was gonna be DJwheat/HD or even Painuser(no offence to him, he is a good player but just a decent commentator)
please use HD/DJwheat more then it would be perfect for me =)

Ok first of all, thank you for not signing day[9] on this event, I can't stand that guy, honestly.

Second, thank you for having the common sense to add some production value to this tournemant. It makes the experience ten-fold better. I'm surprised that other tournaments haven't done the same sort of thing yet.

Please keep doing this, hopefully we will see a lan event in the future.

Cheers!

Are you talking about TotalBiscuit? He's gotta be the best commentator I've ever heard. So much energy and excitement. And he clearly knows his SC2, he has a very good ability to explain what the players are doing. But thanks for sharing your opinion anyways.

I disagree with the use of 2 casters. I find having the one caster makes it much easier to understand, less distracting with side conversations. The only way to have the results hidden is to do the tournament live, and that leaves a bunch of technical issues that may arise during the live broadcast. Doing it live in a studio is very expensive, and again opens the door for errors. They would need to rent a studio, hire make-up artists, hire cameramen, hire set designers, rent props, hire a staff for the floor, sell tickets, etc, etc, etc. What you're suggesting is definitely not viable for the first time. You want a perfect example of why? Look to the NASL!

Fantastic job here IGN! You're showing some flare and creating some excitement. The quality (both audio and video) is superb, the casters are great and fluid, and the graphics and editing are pro. I like what you guys are doing... making the rest look bad! Keep up the good work.

I absolutely love it, the only thing I would like to see would be 2 casters/match instead of one.

Love the general informative style of the casts (fact boxes before the games and statistics after the games)

TB definitely does not clearly know his SC2. He explains what players are doing, but only on the most basic level. He is good at explaining stuff to bronze-gold league ppl. However, he misses out on many MANY many many things which any pro gamer/analytics wouldn't miss that I would want to know. I agree with you, he is entertaining, but I would much much rather have a co-analyst caster with him who actually knows the game on a competitive level to commentate alongside him. He would do the play by play, and the other caster would analyse the game on a much deeper level than TB can. That would be a good combo.

He reminds me of that guy who commentated alongside Idra during the GSL, except TB actually knows the basics of SC2.

Honestly, the league is going in a very positive direction. It is well done and the production quality makes it a superior product despite it perhaps having not the best competition.

Anyone complaining about the commentary should have taken note in this topic by now that no one is in consensus with any commentator being bad. With a huge pool of casters being involved, everyone will have a problem with one or another due to personal taste. But, for every person disliking on a commentator there are two who like that one. Thus, saying to change the caster is a pointless criticism as of now.

Things I would like to personally see is before the match having a small skit about the players. Either going into an interview or perhaps just almost an announcement type introduction highlighting their accomplishments so far. Basically, anything to put a small hiatus in between the games and further the involvement in the game. How many would go nuts to see a small video before an Idra match highlighting his BM? Or highlighting TLO's crazy strategies? Just an idea (though it would take a good bit of production time).

Obviously the VOD system needs a little tweaked, but I think you guys already know that.

Have you guys though about doing a World event like GSL did? Koreans vs. The World? It was highly entertaining and might be something interesting, especially to draw in a Korean fanbase to your league.

Just some thoughts.

TotalBiscuits style of commentry is pretty cool really, just adds so much energy and excitement to any matchup and kinda appropriate since SC2 is a bit of a boxing match. Rather enjoy that he has good command English and his own style of word use. That's not to take anything away from the other commentators, just that people seem to have shit on TB a lot more than anyone else.

The most important bits of "analysis" that I find interesting are comparisons to current trends, playstyles of players, their weaknessess/strengths and any history between them, which the play-by-play guys seem to be mostly ontop of. It's the smaller things like building placement and timings that are slightly lacking but as mentioned most of this can be solved by pairing play-by-play guys with analysis guys to build up fights and make predictions and chew the fat afterwards. Additionally since the play-by-play commentators generally aren't as knowledgable, I imagine it would make it much easier to throw relevant questions to the analytical guy.

While the everyone prefers different commentry styles, everyone can agree on when the production great :> The backdrops are visually more interesting than having casters sitting at a desk, although not as cool as a studio audience (never will be).

Perhaps some post game interviews asking the players their thoughts going into the match and running through how they made the various decisions they did would be good. Also would be nice if IGN encouraged people to submit cheerfuls and you could work them into the pre/post game bits or slow moments.

I think the VOD/sync stuff has been covered by everyone already.

A TSL3 style no-spolier tourney bracket that links into the matches for RO32/18/8 etc would be awesome.

I do love TB's enthusiasm, though his game knowledge definitely needs improving. From other people's comments on various threads it seems he's a lot like Marmite, people either love him or hate him. Of the set of IGN casters he's the one I think would most benefit from a co-caster who could bring a bit more analysis. Still I watch tournaments to be entertained, not to improve my play and TB certainly entertains. I prefer over-enthusiasm to being told the game is really dull (even if it is really dull) and there's nothing the commentators can do to make it more exciting for us.

As an aside, is there anywhere to watch the full IPL boradcast other than when it's on live? The VoDs are great, but I'd kind of like to see the full show at some point and 8pm Eastern isn't doable if you live in the UK.

I give up trying to watch it.

I know it's great, but I've tried for 3 days to watch Idra matches and I just can't. The VOD system is not "bad connection friendly", so I can't watch it at all.

What is it doing so you can't watch it? Most of the issues we're having with the VOD page is trying to figure out how to make it easy to watch matches 2 and 3, not being unable to watch them at all. If you can let me know stuff like what browser you're using, what you're trying to do to watch them, and what happens (black screen? won't load?) I can forward that info to our engineers!
