So today I finally got the chance to look at a large chunk of the trailers from E3 2012, due to my extended vacation away from my home here on TL (been lurkin' for a while). Anyways, games that stood out to me included The Last of Us, which frankly looks astounding and my pants are still a little damp from when I saw the in-game footage, and Beyond Two Souls, which looked intriguing, and I am an Ellen Page fanboy so I may just have to play it.
But, the game that really disappointed me is Sony's SSB-esque crossover fighting game, Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale. When I first heard about this game, I was so excited to see a whole slew of characters that I had grown up with, and some that I still pal around with today. Characters that immediately came to mind were Sora (Kingdom Hearts), Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Rachet & Clank, Jak, etc. The list went on and on. I had kept in the back of my mind that there could be some licencing issues between Sony and third-party companies (namely Insomniac and Naughty Dog).
I had seen a brief gameplay video that was (leaked?), and the combat looked great. which showed PaRappa the Rapper (:D) and Kratos. Instinctively, seeing PtR was a godsend, and I justly hyped the game for that reason, for I felt that if they had put a character like him in tha 'All-Stars' line-up, there's bound to be a mess of bigger and better names too, which excited me.
Much to my disappointment, upon learning what characters were announced, I was disappointed to find the list very short thus far, sort of cooling down my hype for this game. First of all, there are only eight characters announced so far, which was extremely frustrating for me because if they were going to be looking for more hype, they would have announced more. Which lead me to consider - how many characters WILL this game have? Characters like Fat Princess and Sly Cooper seemed a little 'obscure' for Sony's goldmine of faces, yet they choose to announce those two included with the others as the first 'major' announcement (don't get me wrong, I love Sly Cooper, but why now?)
Other than that, from what I have read and seen, the combat looks generally fun and dynamic, with a combo-style power bar (something SSB lacked). Character-specific moves and levels appealed to me, which gets me thinking more about the integrity of this upcoming title.
So, what is TL.net's opinion on the game, confirmed characters, and who would you guys like to see in the game?
Who I would like to see in the game:
Crash Bandicoot
Spyro
Eizo (Assassin's Creed)
Sora (Kingdom Hearts)
Croc
Lara Croft
Jak and Daxter
Ratchet and Clank
Sackboy (LittleBigPlanet)
Cloud Strife/Sephiroth (Final Fantasy)
Anyone from Coolboarders (would be a sick concept)
