Oh my god. This is the best article I've read for a long time. I have Always been a (Z)sAviOr fan. And I truly think that he is the best player ever. He managed to defeat the best terrans on imbalanced maps. (Z)sAviOr is the Maestro of zerg.

And this is a very good read to someone new to BW.

I've always respected Savior's play and I was well aware of all this before reading the article xD

However, I don't think any Zerg player can come close to what Jaedong is. Jaedong's 81% winrate in ZvZ is just unmatchable, not only was is his style but unable to copied no matter how much people try. Furthermore, Jaedong held a 70%~ win rate against protoss AFTER Bisu's PvZ revolution while savior just crumbled. I understand Savior was the master of tactics while Jaedong is more of a master of INSANE multitasking that makes many A class players that play him look like idiots, but I cannot help but like Jaedong's highlight videos better than savior's

Jaedong Highlights

There's absolutely no need to start any ''X is greater than Savior!''-stuff in this thread.
I believe in the almighty Grötslev! -- I am never serious and you should never believe a thing I say. Including the previous sentence.

I bet in 2007 any person that could do C+ in iccup could beat any pro pre 2003, does that invalidate ppl like yellow, boxer, nada, july? during those times? Savior seemed much bigger i suppose the hype was much better back then relative to what is currently going on. With all gaming scene it's all about the hype and savior had it up the yahoo.

So it's more impressive to stand out in a pool of less people?
The first part about competitiveness is correct, but it does not invalidate people like Yellow, boxer, nada, july.

Yellow: If you like savior how can you not like Yellow. He stood as the one successful zerg against the odds for much longer than Savior. Maybe not the #1 champion but he was the only one challenging Terrans for a long time. He was the model for playing against the odds.

Boxer: Seriously don't think I need to explain why Boxer is invalid within your assumption.

Nada: Most successful ever for the longest ever. More succesful than Savior. Cannot be argued.

July: FIRST Zerg to win a starleague. That is beating the odds. Oh btw he won a golden mouse, something Savior doesn't have nor looked to be able to do if you follow his ridiculous slump.

You're misunderstanding everybody else and being blinded by your rage at him for the betting scandal, nobody is arguing that savior was more dominant than Flash, but Flash was dominant on amazing terran maps where the only other really really good top players were Jaedong, stork bisu and fantasy. While Savior was up against Midas, Oov, Nada, Iris, casy and more who were all just as good relative to their era as jaedong stork bisu and fantasy.

As for your argument about july and yellow, neither of them were DOMINANT, july was close but yellow certainly wasn't, savior however was.

Do not take this as me bashing those players, I'm simply saying you're not giving savior enough credit. What he did was amazing during its time.
If you're implying that Flash's competition would beat those people now, well yeah of course he would, flash is in his prime (a little past but still) while these players have all passed their respective primes.

july is an oddity he has short bursts of brilliance but he could never hold it months on end. Yellow has the nicknames like silver farmer and king of silver, which is what i used to call stork but apparently he's better now :D I like a lot of the old zerg's like Oversky and H.O.T-Forever are two of the fav's blackman, yellow, ynarc, savior, july, saint etc. I enjoy alot of the one hit wonders like casy or sync v-gundam because they had change how the game was played a bit in their own ways even if they couldn't keep up after their strategies were dismantled.

I was posing a question that was rhetorical the obvious answer was no it doesn't cheapen what people did during those times. Just like Babe Ruth's accomplishments aren't less because we use different balls bats or w.e and parts of the game has changed. All i was saying is that savior had a very very large fan base and his matches had a lot of build up. Which may not be the best player in stats ever but he was at that time all i said is that his hype was bigger then flash's which holds better in peoples memories.

When people talk about the best player of all time they talk about their influence to the sport what they brought to the table that no one else before them did and savior did that and then some. Not just stats because we all know the newer players watched and studied what people did in the past and once was deemed impressive is now standard so just to compare one or two things would always leave the older generations in the dust nostalgia will never allow.

I'm simply saying you're not giving savior enough credit. What he did was amazing during its time.

savior forever!! he made me wake up early to watch all of his games and Im damn glad I did it. He delivered the most epic moments of any sports i have ever watched and he did it constantly. I will remember that Iris game on Neo Arkanoid until I die, I seriously was sweating and had tears in my eyes when he finally pulled the win after like 20 situations where any other zerg would have been toast. You may argue that there are better people around nowadays, but to this day there hasnt been ANYONE coming even close to the level of entertainment he provided in his games imo.

Wonderful article good job! I love the deep analysis of Savior and his play style and what he did to the game. It is really to bad he had to go and fix games. He did so much for starcraft why did he HAVE to cheat!? ;/

Really nice article.

It amuses me how much blind hate people really have for this guy, even though, in my opinion, wasn't really that bad. Its not like he was butchering babies.

I really wish they would let up his ban when his probation is over..if only to let us see one more amazing game.

What he did was indeed horrible, he potentially ruined the entire credibility of professional broodwar by convincing other pros to get into match fixing. HOWEVER it doesn't make his accomplishments and contributions any less.
