Definitely one of my new favorite animes.
Sitting through stuff like Nisemonogatari and Amagami is really hard now. gah, gg man...
TRuth be told I didn't like EVOL after I watched episode 1-2. Why is it so good (in your opinion)?
Also, out of curiosity, is Aquarion EVOL going to have a love triangle like Macross Frontier?
Definitely love triangle. Its created/directed by Shoji Kawamori. Hes the creator of almost every Macross show other than Macross 2, and of those he directed all but SDF and 7. Also creator/director of Escaflowne. Add the original Aquarion on top of this, and its clear that he has some insane hard-on for Love Triangles lol
Emnjay, you know there are 8 episodes out for Aquarion, right? You snuck a post in on me. Sunday is Aquarion Day, just so you know when to look for new eps.
Yes, I know. I stopped at 05 cause it was so good. Saving 06-09 for this sunday.
Edit: Rewatching it again is really nice. You catch things you didnt catch before. Lots of subtle details that I didnt realize before.
Catch things you didn't catch before, sort of like the true best girl in the show?:

Lol, paperbag girl. They've yet to formally introduce her. I already spoiled myself with the doll girl when I watched some parts of 08. But yes, all the girls are awesome. 05 is like my most favorite episode yet. Even the soundtrack is nice, very fitting for all the scenes they do.
Music is done by Yoko Kanno, its impossible for the sound track to be bad.

is it the girl with the bag over her head?
Thanks for the clarification Sentenal. I suppose this is sort of what I was expecting. Given how Macross F went I am a little unsure about watching this, to be honest.

What shows & artists do you most recommend for soundtracks?
I love Yuki Kajiura myself, but I am kind of wondering what else is out there & I kind of fail at name recognition anyway, so I may have just overlooked some.
I stopped watching anime for few years as i got more into mangas, but lately i finaly start to get more hungry for anime, so based on fast research i started with Garden of the Sinners (anidb). So far i watched 2 episodes out of 7, and while story and plot is thrilling i have to say im a specially amazed by backgrounds, the color mix and general dark ambience works brilliantly, and those backgrounds are very detailed (almost every single one). Kinda reminded me of Byousoku 5 cm where i just stared with awe. My recommendation. Certainly even after 2 episodes it already deserves the notes it gets on internet even if i can only vouch for aesthetics.
And a question for you, was there any REALLY good anime series/movies lately(like since 2008/2009) ? Im mainly interested in Seinen catergory, i am asking you because im actually interested in more of personal recomendations rather than general search engine based on rates. Genre doesnt matter.
I almost always recommend Madoka (Puella Magi Madoka Magica) to everyone right now.
It's a visual and audio treat that, even after probably watching it 20 times, still delivers for me. I don't know why, but it just has not gotten old yet. The plot is also good, even if I didn't like the ending that much. The direction is fine, the execution was poor. A lot of it's success came from the notion that it was an original work, not an adaptation.
Fate/Zero is another very good show. Second half airs this spring. Very high production values, great plot, great character development, etc. While it is a prequel, you don't really need to watch Fate/Stay Night to follow it. It also saves you the headache that is Shirou.
Ano Hana (Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai) -- it's a short and sweet story. I teared up at the end. Usagi Drop -- It's about a single father raising a daughter. A warm and fuzzy, adorable show. Hanasaku Iroha -- A fairly typical slice of life / drama, but I really enjoyed it. Others not so much. It is visually stunning as well.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood -- It is a shounen show, but very good nonetheless. The best part about it comes from how it is paced. I watched all 64 episodes over the course of 2-3 days because it does not drag on, each episode feels like it goes somewhere, etc. It was very, very refreshing watching it towards the end of last semester when everything else (school-wise) was more or less crapping out cause I hated my project, lol.

Honestly I'm not too good at naming anime music myself. Yoko Kanno I know, and JAM Project I know, plus a few others who get named in this thread alot. As far as Soundtracks themselves go, practically anything listed here is bound to be good. But outside of her, I've never bothered to learn the names of composers. JAM Project and the rest I know are singers/bands, rather than composers, and pretty much just does theme songs for various shows, rather than entire soundtracks.
Yoko Kanno, Kajiura Yuki far and away are my favourite.. Alot of people like Jam Project aswell. Taku Iwasaki does alot of Jazz styled soundtracks (I think hes the most prolific outside of those 2 in the stuff Ive seen.) but not all his stuff is as memorable. Also KazeHydras music guide doesnt even give Kanno an honourable mention. It lost a star because of that, real folk blues..

There's fifty chapters of shit to wade through. Maybe he'll have a cameo at the end, but I am not hopeful.
Flashback at best when dealing with the Judo blondie. Sad..
KazeHydras music guide is more like a general introduction. I'd recommend these artist/composers:
Jun Maeda - most of Key's productions including Kanon, Air, Clannad, Angel Beats (with ANANT-GARDE EYES) Yoko Kanno - Too many to name, notables GitS, Darker than Black, Porco Rosso, Macross Frontier. Joe Hisaishi - One of the biggest names in Japanese music industry. Produced the entire scores of a large majority of Studio Ghibli movies. Akihiko Matsumoto - Another very well known composer but mainly for film. His works for animated films included One's Out, Black Jack and probably most known for the soundtrack for Summer Wars. Mitsumune Shinkichi - Lesser known composer, works such as Sky Girls, Zero no Tsukaima series and FLCL. Tenmon - Ef series, 5 Centimeters Per Second. Kousaki Satoru - Haruhi, Lucky Star, Bakemonogatari, Ore no Imoto. Michiru Oshima - Bonen no Xamdo, Fullmetal Alchemist, Sora no woto
For tracks/albums I'd recommend Joe Hisaishi's Kiki's Delivery Service soundtrack and his Piano Stories album. Other recommendations include;
Mitsumune Shinkichi's - Passed Away from Zero no Tsukaima Kousaki Satoru - Senjougahara Tore - Bakamonogatari Complete Music works + Show Spoiler +
TENMON - Sora to Umi no Uta - 5cm per second OST Matsumoto Akihiko - The Jinnouchi Family - Summer Wars OST Joe Hisaishi - A Town with an Ocean View - Kiki OST Jun Maeda and ANANT-GARDE EYES - Unjust life - Angel Beats! OST
My preferences tend to favor piano/violin solo tracks. Welcome to a world of wonderful music.

Tnx for this mate, I also tend to like piano/violin solos more so I'll appreciate it more than others. Cheers!
Honestly if the end of the world looked like this I'd probably be breathtaken and stop caring.
Was the stuff with the fox family also in common route? Forgot. But that sequence of things had some really excellent backgrounds too.

Surprising, considering how after I watched Madoka once I was just like bleh, this has no rewatch value. Production quality is good but plot and pacing both suffers without a weekly airing format. Characters are decent overall, with show length and pacing killing some characters. Being original was nice but there was no novelty in the show. I pretty much just look at it as a stellar example of what had much potential but couldn't deliver completely.
On the bright side it didn't fall as hard on its face as sola or AB.

Maeda Jun has really slowed down these years, if people want to bother they'd do best look for past works. Not that they can find much in the ways of new things considering how the RW ost was like...1 track done by him.
