because everything they are doing now is a consequence of their backstory(was explained in like 3 chapters) which i don't care about.I get the general idea of what's going on but I don't care in the least what the motivation behind it is.Like for instance I know that some long time ago there was a guy that helped those midgets and than when the strawhats came along they found their new hero in usop I guess(because lies and all that and they can't tell lies apart from the truth).
Anyway as I said,these plots are not complicated in the least.Oda gives these people backstorys naturally but I'm not interested in these ones particularly and It's not really important for me to understand them to know what's going to happen.
and it's not flawed logic at all,were you never in highschool learning about something you didn't care about?For the test you just skim through notes and get the general idea behind(for instance history) about what happened and the rest is just details that you need to learn for a higher grade.
Here an example:What is Operation Barbarossa?
I would just write that it was a german operation to invade the soviet union,it began in 1941 and it failed.
Now go on wikipedia and see how much stuff there is about it.It's the same principal with this.You read in between the lines and get the general idea behind it but do I really care about how a midget is spilling his guts to the strawhats and all the hardships they were going through when they aren't in the least relevant to the story and I'll hardly remember them in like half a year time.No,not really.

So you missed out on the part of the statue of norland and then usopp's lie and why they are all called fraland and such. Then theres the connection of usopp and norland being botanists and the dwarfs learning to tend to plants from norland further linking usopp and the dwarfs. Then there's the whole thing with rebecca being of noble blood and learning everything from the toy soldier(which is part of the dwarf story) and his entire fighting style that could be from a crew member on rodgers ship and nearly all of the motivation for fighting dressrosa.
All from the dwarfs.
You're missing out on probably half of the story in the past 4 months, or are just lying to yourself to show a lack of interest for whatever reasons.

and yes I got the whole thing about rebecca and the bloodline and what happened to the country,with donflamingo setting up the king and all.

I believe its because it seems backwards to read one piece for only the action. The story is why the series is so good and has been going on for so long without any issues. At its core thats the idea of one piece, including what rodger said, its the journey that matters. There's tons of other mangas out there for terrible story and action.

no offense buddy if you are reading a shounen for the story than I really suggest you pick up a book once in a while.
not saying one piece doesn't have a good story line but I know a filler-ish part when i see it.
and yea sorry for thinking zoro cutting a ship in half is more entertaining than reading about midgets.

I don't think one piece falls into the typical shounen category. I'd put its story above any movie/book series out there now.

While I agree One Piece is a masterpiece of story and such it really isn't this god like thing most of you believe it to be. It's an extremely good manga and anime but it's nothing more. The fact some of you say it's better than every book out there is just retarded given the fact that they are completely different mediums of story telling. One Piece would never be a good book nor would it be any more famous if it was a book. Heck it's not even the best manga out there (though that is mostly down to personal opinion). I love One Piece but seriously people?

Berserk(will never be finished tho),Death Note,Hunter x Hunter,Gantz(to a point but it gets kinda weird and dumb),Shingeki no Kyojin,some people like Claymore because it has some crazy art style but I personally dislike it.
Toriko,even tho it's kinda gay and dumb,holds a special place in my heart as well and is just good fun.
