@thebearjew. Well, Valve could've invited both Newbee and LGD over tier 2 Western teams that didn't even made it top8. Secret and Complexity for starters done absolutely nothing with their unearned freepasses.

col gets one for their Shanghai placement + not terrible Lan-results (though far from good)
EG just straight up top3 Shanghai
Secret is the standing champion

which means the only replacement would have been to not invite Navi (who finished top8)
or Alliance (9th-12 place finisher)

I'd say LGD is about on same terms as both those when it comes to who deserves an invite at that time

I believe you guys have misunderstood the hate on LGD in the Chinese scene in the past few months.

First of all, Chinese fans shit on LGD's invite simply because they don't want Newbee in the qualifier, which completely ruin the chance for the other teams.

The other reason is about what LGD/CDECs did in recent transfers, they have sacked quite a number of good player and put them into awkward position, like Sylar and Xz. Sylar was supposed to end up in Newbee Y and Xz was about to join Newbee. So you can see why Newbee fans hate LGD for 'stealing' their invite.

and Xiao8's retire-and-come-back pattern and LGD downgraded Yao to CDEC for him, just add more fuel to the flame. As you might know, Xiao8/Yao had the similar bromance relationship like Hao/Mu. Xiao8 flamed Rotk very hard when casting Shanghai Major for 'misleading his brothers in LGD', but he kicked his dearest one when he rejoin the team.

It is all about karma instead of any sensible thinking. So, some Chinese fans were happy about LGD failing, just like people cheers the Secret/EG failure these days.

Actually, not too many people in China think LGD will do bad in this tournament. But Chinese dota communities like sgamer and tieba are super toxic and brutal, as long as LGD are not winning this major, flames are all over the place.

It all boils down to having no vision. BH had such big contribution that doesn't show up on any stat sheets. How many gems did LGD lose that game? At least 2?

Sick games by Liquid, havent watched the finals yet, prolly sick games by both teams there too.
