The 10 hero compendium challenge, now the favorite hero challenge will also make you pick one of your least played heroes and stick with him. There's also the A-Z challenge in the stretch goals. Really cool, especially in comparison to LoL, where you're encouraged by pretty much everything to stick with one hero for a long time.
Yeah but it punishes players like me who only want to play 1/2 heroes :/
Well, according to IceFrog's 'philosophy' it's forcing you to become a better player. IceFrog thinks that by playing random is the best way at getting better at the game. That's apparently the reason why random extra gold exists in DotA, Gabe Newell also said that he used to only play Sand King, but IceFrog told him that that's awful and that he should play random. :D I wonder why don't they just give you more battle points for playing random or something. It doesn't seem hard to come up with something like that.

Well you can become a better over all player... or you could become the best lycan / sand king / Io etc etc. Sure in the competitive scene thats terrible because bans exist but as far as AP goes you can't really beat one signature hero.
I'd just rather be amazing at one hero than a jack of all trades personally.
