I'd be surprised if a professional sports team would do that because it would poorly represent their brand, but I'm no expert on American sports.
No, so please, drop this bullshit sports analogy because the communities have little in common.
Generally speaking, it has always been seen as distasteful to throw away games which aren't important to you but they are to the others. Not just to those teams, but to fans and the organizers. Of course when fan-favourite teams (Navi) do this you will get a bunch of people saying "but they can do whatever they want," however, that doesn't change that a lot of people have always found it in poor taste.
While I generally agree that this is a format issue, at the same time if I was the manager of a Dota team I wouldn't want my players doing this because I know a lot of people view it as disrespectful (and so do I, because it is disrespectful). And eSports is such a small industry where you don't really want to piss off a large portion of pro players + fans on a regular basis.

Why they even put pudge in the vote is beyond me. Just make a damn arcana for him to keep the trench happy and then let us vote for a real hero.
There might be enough people out there to outvote the hordes, but every vote that isn't pudge is going to be split across six heroes. There's no chance.

Pudge might not get an arcana with this system, because previously the votes would be split but eventually we'll have pudge vs 1 other hero(I hope we end up with that anyway pudge vs 6 is going to be harder)
And if people just vote on that other hero he might not win.
But we'll have to see, trench is strong.

Actually, you might be right.
Those that remain will be pitted against each other in a single-elimination voting deathmatch to determine which will receive the next arcana
So the plan is to pretty much vote against pudge every time and hope.

Pudge arcana could be cool. I don't really have a problem with it as long as it's really well done. I suppose the only real issue I see is that it means that he might be picked more, which he certainly doesn't 'need' to be. But I don't know if Arcana sell well enough for the pick rate to be heavily affected.
I would personally like to see a tinker arcana though.

We might be able to eliminate pudge early on as long as people vote against him, if pudge is eliminated we could have an overall more fun voting for the rest of the way imho.

I think my problem with a pudge arcana is that he already has so many cool unique and animation altering items.
You could mix and match current pudge items to get something like a mr. potato-face pudge arcana.
So yeah, my problem with it is just that there are so many other heroes more deserving of an arcana imho. Like Jakiro for example. To each his own though

I'd vote for an axe arcana myself if it wasn't because i'm so satisfied with my axe's current item set.

Qop arcana would presumably just be naked.
The problem to me is that pudge is going to get an arcana no matter what. Valve know that the instant they release one they'll probably make more than they did on compendiums.
These kind of things are an opportunity to get one onto a more interesting hero who might otherwise have missed out, imo.
