One spectacular competitor is polarizing and thus interesting, both for the sport as well as for spectators. In the case of the Yankees, there are the Yankees fans, the everyone else generally HATES the Yankees. And of course, this love/hate relationship ushered in more-or-less a baseball renaissance (of course this effect has died down considerably of late, because of steroids and because the Yankees haven't been winning). Kind of the same thing happened with Savior. People considered him the villain, the matler, and many, many cheered against him. Yet others were awed by his dominance and cheered for him. And thus, he is still a relatively polarizing figure despite his lack of recent success. Even Bisu, to an extent, was like this. People argued back and forth about whether he had "it," people wrote long FE articles about him, whatever the case, his now-comparatively long reign at the top polarized the community into believers and non-believers, of sorts. Now? As great as Jaedong, Flash, and others may be, there's been so much turnabout that no one really knows who to root for anymore. So while it's relatively crushing to see Jaedongs and Flashes eliminated from major tournaments, it's not nearly as huge as "Savior lost 3-0 to Bisu WOW!" It's more like a lesser Stork. When Stork got 4-pooled out of the tournament, people were pretty stunned, but that didn't last long. Because as good as he is, he's always second or third fiddle, and thus doesn't evoke as much emotion. | ||
