Ah, it was a really interesting and fun series for me to watch. Seeing Larva's take, I can now appreciate how better than him Soma is.

Soma had a lot more time to prepare for the matchup. I think with preparation and a bo7 Larva would have made the series a lot closer.

I think it was less preparation and more just that Flash got a random into ZvZ build order win plus Terran twice. Sure, Larva is a significantly worse player than Soma, and maybe more prep would have been nice, but it was in large part just terrible luck.

Random just shouldn't be allowed in tournaments. OK it was fun seeing Flash offrace but nonsense like ZvZ where one player is 2/3 encouraged towards dumb builds brcause they don't know the opponent is Z is just not great for the player in that position or the spectators.

I tried and tried again to watch the games with English commentary and it really sucks that Tasteless and Artosis are the only option.

These guys are flaunting their C level knowledge and making fun of the concept that anybody could know more than them, and value their "banter" higher than the games they're casting.

Random into ZvZ on a semi-island map is pretty much the worst case. Especially with how close the air distance is on Plasma. Even then, Flash had to use a Sunken rush to secure victory against Larva.

I enjoyed every minute of the Random Flash ASL. I hope Flash tries again. It's truly amazing that he got 3rd place.

ok that's sorta true but they're pretty funny

Yeah, you're right that the semi-island map really exacerbated the issue.

Still, I think we have enough randomness as it is with things like BO wins/advantages that we dont need to take it to a whole 'nother level just for novelty's sake.

Anyone whining about R being permitted in tournaments does not understand this game. Achieving a >50% win rate in starleagues for any of your three matchups makes you one of the best players in the world. Having to learn nine matchups at starleague level play is impossible. Artosis mocks Flash's mutalisk micro because it is far below starleague skill level. Random is an impossible challenge that only one Brood War player in history could ever realistically take on. What you are mad about is FlaSh being better than almost everyone else in the scene for the last three years.

I don't think you got the point. Maybe I didn't, either, but I thought they meant that matches vs random always feel like cheese, even if both players decide to play macro. At least on the side of the non-random it's always a gamble, which can even lead to build order losses and that's silly.

Unfortunately, that's the nature of English casting when there's such a dearth in BW knowledge in the foreigner scene. Artosis knows things about matches involving Terran, and that's about it when it comes to technical knowledge between the two. Top foreign players definitely know more, but knowledge doesn't equal good shoutcasting/commentary quality.

It's basically a locked position for the duo since they have the trust of the Korean broadcasters, but enough people find them entertaining that I don't mind. I just watch with the Korean commentary lol

Amazing games! The results were deceiving. Flash lucked out Terran twice. But both games looked so close that I thought Larva could've nicked it.

Larva's quick hive tech was reminiscent to Soma's win over Flash's Terran in the SF. Flash took substantial early damage from mutas early on, but nearly clawed back to the game. Now looking at Larva's game, I'm beginning to wonder whether Flash was really that behind against Soma and maybe Flash had made a rare slip in that situation (targeting the wrong buildings in Soma's main?)

Anyway, right now I'm really torn as to whether to see Flash playing R or T next ASL. In the few T games, he has shown a diverse array of TvZ builds (SK Terran, siege tank after 2 raxes, quick vessels, that incredible d-matrix drops). As R, he comes up with some funky unorthodox plays (proxy sunkens on Plasma, incredible reaver targetting).

Either way, Flash never fails to entertain. Not sure why people are moaning about Flash going random. Flash just brings a new breath of life into the game, whichever race he plays. In the words of a legendary Roman general: "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED??"

I am pretty sure Artosis has hit S rank and Tastleless hit A.

Don't be stupid. I didn't say R is too much of an advantage, I said it makes tournaments worse. I'm not upset about Flash being an extremely good Terran player and a decently impressive Protoss, actually it was really cool to see him demonstrate pretty clean micro in the PvPs and his take on reaver harass.

That's not the issue. Him playing R still cheapened the tournament on the whole. I'd literally rather have him play T the whole way and stomp everyone than this.

Justifying the novelty, and/or your boner for Lee Young Ho with putting words in other people's mouths is pretty sad.

Exactly. Random is such a great idea. There is nothing cheesy about it.

That is total BS! Would you rather watch Rapid and Noregret? Those guys don't know crap and they are definitely not as entertaining as Tastosis. It is all about entertainment, not knowledge! And when it comes to knowledge, i am sure those guys know more than you in their respective match-ups. They do not need to know ZvZ inside out!

Exactly! Even though this season was one of the worst, that has nothing to do with Flash's random, but rather with how poorly the terrans and protoss have performed for this season. I wish Flash played random from now on in tournaments. He does not have to prove anything to me! Flash is the true icon of Starcraft, no one else like him.
