YouTube High Quality

The YouTube high quality video thinger is finally official!

When you view a video, right below the fullscreen button is a button to change quality. After noticing that I quickly looked for a way to make it permanent.

To make it permanent, you have to go into your account settings (top right, next to username) and scroll all the way to the bottom right of all links. Next, you click on "Video Playback Quality" and change your settings to how you like it. I have it on the third one (high quality all the time).

nice thanks for the tip, changed mine too. is there a pattern between which videos get to have the high quality option and which just stay as default flv encoding?

Example of video that has high quality? I don't see the button for high quality you're talking about.

I think if you can't see the quality change clicky, put this on the end of the link.

I think it is something like:
&fmt=18

probably wrong but it is something like that.

Yeah, I think some old videos aren't updated with this thing or something. That thing where you add "&fmt=18" to the end of the URL might work on some of the videos without the little HQ button.

Another weird thing that I've seen is adding "&fmt=6". Not sure what the difference is...

I think the difference is that '&fmt=6' gives higher quality video with same quality audio, while the '&fmt=18' gives higher quality video AND audio.
