No, it's just that no one knows what the long term effects of lasik will be. Could be perfectly safe, might not be...
Of course, you only live one life, and you make all your mistakes, and learn what not to do, and that’s the end of you.

10-20 years because lasik is so new we don't know what could happen that long after the operation.

Something to keep in mind, eye doctors all wear glasses.

just another question, i looked at lasek, and it says dio between -1 and -7, just curious if anyone would know whether or not i would fit into that range? and if anyone has been told if lasik has the same restrictions?

Why spend a few thousand on laser eye surgery when you could spend considerably less on glasses/contacts with almost guaranteed results and minimal risk.

Laser eye surgery and other non-laser eye correction procedures have been around a lot longer than some of you claim. Your eyes are not going to fall off or go blind. Do some research for yourself, better yet, ask your optometrist. Someone did give a pretty good advice to wait until you are older, I'm sure your optometrist will say the same. So for now, accept that fact that you should deal with the problem. Besides, even the "laser" surgery is a SURGERY, so there is a risk involved so you should not take it lightly.

I think the biggest risk in lasik is dry eye, and you said you wouldn't mind that, but have you heard of stories of people who suffer from this post-surgery? Do some research and you will find that you DO NOT want that to happen to you.

like i said before, the price is not so bad. i mean, braces are like 4 and a half grand here and people pay that.

my family isnt poor and i dont spend any money i earn, so i dont mind paying it

sure the dry eyes would be an inconvenience and maybe even painful but thats ok. itd be painful having to take my lenses off everytime i wanted to jump in the pool or roll in the mud

if you live life worried about risk you may as well quit right now, you only have about 80years or so to live so why not strive for the best? its not as risky as you think, no more so than alot of other surgeries, in the short term at least. im not saying you should ignore danger but really there is a very low chance of something bad happening, and i dont think dry eyes should count as something bad

has anyone personally had this done or a similar surgery? what are your thoughts about it? do you regret doing it? was it worth it, and anyone side affects? what state were your eyes in?

Why not try glasses/contacts until you are old enough for lasik?

Recommended age for laser eye surgery is 25. Seriously, why not try wearing contacts if you don't want to wear glasses? Contacts these days are REALLY good and you can't even feel they're there.

edit: just read the new thread. If you're not feeling any discomfort seeing things don't bother with anything.

ok, im fine with my eyes now but i turn 19 in 6 months and i dont know if my eye will deteoriate / if the other eye will get short sighted too. i heared eyes stabilise in the early 20s. also, i think i only got this late, so does that mean ill have to wait even longer for them to stabilise compared to a person that got diagnosed in elementary school?

im going to try wearing a contact, i just dont want them to possibly rule out any refractive surgery in the future by damaging my eyes.

actually, im starting to think that lasek is a better option than lasik, if my eyes get worse. i have no idea if they will or wont, the doc says he cannot tell.

but, 25 years, it could be shorter if my eyes stabilise before that right? is that the only reason its 25 and not 15? its just when ur eyes stop changing around?

of course i DO NOT want to get dry eyes, but if dry eyes comes with the lasik almost perfect vision in my right eye then i wont hesitate. besides, i think the incidence of chronic dry eyes in lasek is really low

I started wearing contacts a year ago, and I think they are amazing and not burdensome at all. After a few months, putting in contacts became a five second task that I did in the morning along with showering and brushing my teeth. Sometimes, during the first few months, I even forgot they were in my eyes. You can swim and do w/e you want to do with them and you'll be fine. It does depend a little on the shape of your eyes. Contacts happen to fit perfectly on mine, so just try it. It's less extreme than lasik and it's much much safer.

Yea, but for some people they fall out easily in water. When water contacts the other side, it loses some adhesion to your eye or something like that. For me, it never does. If you get the soft ones that you replace every few weeks, losing it once or twice won't really hurt anyways. But I guess it depends on the shape of your eye.
