Also, it's not too hard to make money in the short term. The hard part is to consistently beat the market over a period of years.

People who consisantly "win" are actually visiting the companies and reviewing their policies, talking with their management, inspecting the products and checking their finances. The average person "heard" something. As azndsh said, anyone can make short term money. Consistant returns are VERY hard. Buffet is Buffet for a reason, not because anyone could pull in a lifetime 20% return...
